!!!The Official Dragon Ball vs. Comics Thread!!!

I don't care about who wins. All I'm doing here is giving my two cents on the topic, and providing motivation and criticism where I can. If you want to figure out how the abilities work in detail I'm sure there are video essays on Youtube covering the subject.

Same here, I am just providing both motivation (trying to cajole the discussion along) and criticism (the seeming lack of impartiality when using terms like infinity). Neither do I have a stake in this, having never watched a full episode of Gojo or DBZ...

If you watched it, you'd be wanking DB worse than carver... and you would also be begging Galan so he would lend you his keikogi 😛

Pope Carver IX, honey, come here:

But is this 'infinity' the same 'infinity' that he uses on humans who can withstand 0.2 seconds of? Because it honestly sounds like hyperbole, I don't need to tell you of all people that infinity is, well, infinite. 0.2 seconds of infinity is still infinity.
I'm pretts sure this had more something to do with people going and remaining bonkers after that timespan.

So humans are fine with 0.1 seconds of infinity? Hmmm.

Eternal Reich wasn't quite eternal...

Being exposed to an influx of infinite information, he wasn't throwing Kamehamehas at people.

I'm under the impression that Japanese writers tend to use fancy/hyerpole language for attack names(hence, a lot of attacks are given some fancy names throughout manga/anime. Sometimes, the writer even will give some explanations why those characters are doing such things)
While the comics medium is far more...straight about attack name. You (compared to anime/manga) rarely see characters babble about every attack they throw with something like "Orbs of Light, Cast into Shade", "Stardust Reverie", "Sudden Phantom Formation Slash of Karmic Wind".....you got the pattern.
On the hand...comics get some as creative as this lol.

IOW, I think anime/manga attack names are same like the attack names in a fighting game....or the codename of comic characters. It reflects some truth, but ultimately, it should really be taken with a grain of salt

What about Tien punch called 'Rekka Kousoku-Ken' which means Light speed Fury punch.

You don't think the writer was hinting at these punches being Light speed?

Why don't you ask Akira? Got his email yet?

Correct. It is anime only. Which is why it will be difficult, maybe impossible, to get the right name seeing as "Rekka kousoku-ken" can either mean;

Kōsoku - 光速 - Light Speed

or

Kōsoku - 高速 - High Speed

Not much at all. From taking the dragonballs and summoning the dragon to Goku's victory, they only traveled around 8 islands away from Frieza's ship only to end up flying back to 4 islands away. And seeing how each island is only 100 or so meters long with an island sized ocean gap between, we're not talking much of a distance throughout the entire event, much less the T-minus 5mins.

This is why I keep saying relying on translations suck.

I'm not sure why you brought an argument that seems to be disagreed/argued by other people multiple times(and all of the threads seem to have some posters agree with my impression)

I have a move like that too. I call it my "light speed ***** slaps" my arms also appear very blurry.

Tien is an anime martial artist. He's going to have fancy names for his attacks.

Wait till you find out what kamehameha translates to.....

Or that actually all characters are vegetables.

And I also think there is a point that different medium/culture treat their fictional works differently. Similar to power-scaling which is very different between anime/manga and comics

At least, it seems my impression isn't just my own

Nonetheless, calling out one's attacks is one of the most common tropes in anime, especially battle shonen series like Dragon Ball Z and My Hero Academia.Launching a powerful attack isn't enough in many series, seeing as so many characters also have cool-sounding names to yell out as they're lunging into it

I'm just asking you a question. I'm not saying you're right or wrong.

Yeah, I know. So I always feel it is very iffy to comparing anime/manga to comics

1)Translation Problem
2)Different culture results different writting style
3)Different conditions(for example, usually it is one writer to write the whole series, so power-scaling is different from comics standards) result in different standards
