Obi-Wan Kenobi - The Series

About the time period stuff, new canon has been around only 8 years, so it’s like we’re back at the 80s content wise.

No it's not. They weren't churning out book after book during the 80s. The EU really only kicked into gear in the 90s and TotJ started being published in '93. Furthermore, the film eras have already been heavily explored by the EU so these nu-EU stories just feel repetitive. Especially since they tend to repeat plot points and characters from the EU except typically done even worse.

I'll give them credit for the High Republic, but the lack of any compelling villains makes the entire era pretty bland.

The 3rd episode is excellent.

Anyone else get the feeling that Vader allowed Obi to escape? To maybe prolong the cat and mouse game and maybe out of some lingering love for his adopted father-like/brother-like figure?

Yeah, I thought the same to and we're not alone. He saw the robot picking him up, so he likely also want to chase him to locate his allies

They are on Yavin, Hoth and the third moon of Endor.

I have to admit I was underwhelmed with the arrival of Vader during this episode it seemed odd watching it.

Nothing like the arrival of Boba Fett and Luke Skywalker imo I jumped put of my chair for those.

Oh he definitely allowed Kenobi to escape, imo. I imagine Vader sensed his overwhelming pain and fear during their battle, and found it appealing to let Kenobi live with those feelings a bit longer.

Vader wants him to suffer.

You're reaching. They're severely limited by the little studio they're shooting in. It was supposed to be a huge fire that blocked Vader from getting to Kenobi, but it looked terrible.

Also, the director sucks. I can't believe they even had shaky cam for this fight.

I also assumed he allowed Kenobi to escape. Or he was at least indifferent to the idea, given this was not the satisfying defeat of Kenobi he had spent 10 years waiting for. He wants to beat Prime Kenobi, not Weak and Broken Kenobi.

That said I also agree this seems too cheap a budget for this show.

Episode was the best of the 3, loved seeing Vader, even though the fight scene was overall lackluster. But I get it, Obi has a decade of being out of the game.

I didn't really care about the Vos reference, but I also never got into the cartoon he was in. Do hope if he's prominent in an episode, he's not written or acted out to be shit.

He was only in 1 episode. Most his stuff is from EU comics, and one new canon novel.

Why are their sparks when the lightsabers were hitting? Pretty sure that didn’t happen before

Sciencer reason: That was plasma discharge from Obi's sabre. After being buried in the sand and heat for over a decade it's in desperate need of a proper lightsabre tuneup.

Reality reason: Because the studio decided bright sparks would look cool.

No they weren't. They pretty much had only a single comic series running at a time (there was a bit of overlap in the final year). I wouldn't consider that "churning out"; I certainly meant the phrase in a way to mean "creating a vast quantity quickly". And the Marvel comic was only partially brought into the EU anyway which was what the discussion was about.

That's a lot of stories...between the three films. Then you have Alan Dean Fosters stuff.

Ok. You're arguing a strawman. I never said there wasn't (in fact I said the opposite). My argument was that when the EU truly kicked off they very quickly began to explore stuff not tied to the films.

I'm not arguing anything. I made an irrefutable statement. Which you couldn't refute.

So it was just an irrelevant statement? Ok.

He ordered his men to bring him Kenobi right before the fire erupted. He didn't want Obi-Wan to escape.

Yea but he didn’t order them to finish him, so he didn’t want him to die right there as well
