Joe Biden, the 46th POTUS

I would agree but I'm still on the fence about it. It's a very complicated situation.

The price needs to come down by a significant margin, US college prices above $100,000 for 4 years is nuts.

Governments should give out non-interest loans with a very long deadline to pay off (years...)...but give benefits to post students who pay off quickly through tax breaks or something else.

I still think they should pay though...just not a lot and don't get crushed by interest.

Colleges just raise their rates in response to government handouts, so the student effectively pays the same out of pocket.

For studies indicating that aid is captured by institutions, see Neal McCluskey, "Yet More Empirical Evidence That Yes, Federal Student Aid Fuels College Price Inflation," Cato Institute, July 8, 2015.

Free education would be better than forgiving student loans. Student loans can be spent on anything the student wants to, the way they are currently set up.

Things like education, healthcare, postal service, rescue services and crime prention are all to be taxed imo.

Why should post secondary education be free?

Unlike healthcare, not everyone goes to College/University.

Because most consider getting a Bachelors the completion of their education, and adding debt to that takes away equal opportunities to get there.

Also why should those people be put in huge debt When they might not even earn more money as a result and will start earning much later? Unless you want society as a whole to be less educated ?

For the good of the country. If everyone has the opportunity to further their education, that's not equal an opportunity than everyone gets now.

You guys are ignoring my second point.

It's true that not everyone goes to college, but making college free still is a great advantage to the economy and society, and also opens up the option of going to college to more people. Additionally of course vocational school should equally be free.

I disagree, I think society places too much emphasize on schooling.

There's plenty of people who do not go to school post high school and do fine or poorly.

I agree with you in terms of emphasis, and it would be great if alternatives to schooling would be encouraged more. But I don't think that's really an argument against making schooling available.

And of course at least statistically schooling does give a person a relatively big boost in their career prospects, though that has gotten less, as degrees have been devalued through inflation.

Taxpayers should not have to pay for free post-secondary schooling if not everyone goes.

If people choose to go to college, that's on them.

So you prefer cancelling student loans?

A lot of universities are heavily subsidized, in addition to out of control tuition costs. In fact, research shows universities actually raise their tuition in response to government funding, so that the students are still fleeced for all they're worth, and they get the government money as a bonus.

Public education would do away with this game, as direct negotiations give the state more leverage.

But its fine for taxpayers to pay for endless wars and to continuously bail out Wall Street right?

To be fair, nobody supports any of those things.

Obama and Bush supporters dance around the issues, like their guy isn't responsible for one (Or both) things.

No.

But the interest rate should be zero if the loan comes from the Government.

Millions of people support "endless wars" and "Wall Street bailouts."
