Surfer saying he's only got another nanosecond to react is not proof.
This isn't hard. Get with the program, JakeTheBank.
This is from 2012.
^ your take would be more credible if it weren't for things like this:

I can agree that if you stretch the verbiage, then at best there is just a subtle implication that Superman might have the potential to act on a picosecond basis. He did not actually do so in the scene itself, however, so it's ultimately moot for debating purposes either way.

Nah he's wrong, this is why lawyers bring in the experts outside of their area.
Literally looked up which is faster, got this:
"Used in this way, the picosecond laser is comparable to a strobe, which can freeze the motion of a sprinter's stride in time-lapse photography. One femtosecond — a quadrillionth, or million billionth, of a second — is a thousand times shorter than the picosecond snippets of time in which molecules react."

Todd, if 1 picosecond = 1000 femtoseconds, then femtoseconds are faster. You're agreeing with me, dumbass.Wants to mock posters for arguing purple prose. Doesn't want to be mocked for wanking purple prose.
Got it. 👆

And how's it remotely comparable? Imagine if I started saying all of Flash's feats are purple prose because he gets hit by normal humans all the time, that's basically what dumbo is saying.
"Purple prose" is just a phrase. The problem is that prose means dick all if the prose is unrelated to something that actually happened
It's the same trap you stumbled into in the post I quoted. You claimed "picosecond feat" and then we want back and forth for a few pages and then everybody (but you) agreed that it was actually just a statement about something that didn't take place. You just got stoked about the word picosecond appearing.
That said, feat or not, if Flash or Supes or another high end speedster say they can observe or react in attosecond or microsecond or picosecond, do you believe them?
I would tend to believe as much with characters with such high end demonstrated feats.
It can be hard to balance prose and hyperbole sometimes though.
Like one recently was someone saying Hulk could grab a handful of sun.
Like no there was no feat involved, but I really don’t think it’s outside of the realm of possibility for him to lift something with that weight/mass, given what we’ve seen before.
Originally posted by JuntaiSure, statements are more credible if they have the feats to back it up. But all that does is distinguish credible from non-credible statements. Ultimately everything turns on the actual feats and a statement (taken on its own, disconnected from any actual event) is not that.

In other words: a femtosecond feat makes a statement about picosecond potential seem more credible. But you couldn't hold up that statement on its own as proof of anything.

Unless its Thor. Or Silver Surfer, then all statements are feats.

Flash getting hit by normal humans actually happens, ergo all of his speed feats are purple prose.

Lol, that's cute. You actually think your opinion supersedes what happened in the actual comic.

That's what dumbo is arguing and you're supporting, Superman's statement of nanosecond or femtosecond are invalid because Felix Faust hit him or Sensor Girl did something after auto shields of Brainiac 5 stopped Superman from reaching her.

??? There are 1,000 picoseconds in a femtosecond. So one trillionth of a second (picosecond) vs one quadrillionith of a second (femtosecond). 1,000 seconds is 16.5+ minutes. 16.5+ minutes isn't exactly an eternity when compared to a single second. So we all agree femtoseconds are faster than picoseconds.Either way, Superman only threatened Sensor Girl that she had a femtosecond to put down her lightning rod. Sensor Girl doesn't have femtosecond+ reflexes. Yet she activated her lightning rod before Superman could stop her. It's similar to when Superman boasted to Felix Faust about how he could measure time within nanoseconds so Felix Faust shouldn't make any sudden moves... but Felix Faust then roasted Superman with a spell involving red sun energy. Felix Faust doesn't have nanosecond+ reflexes either.
I can invalidate pretty much any feat by this logic.
There was no picosecond feat in Action Comics 1061.
There's no picosecond feat in comics in general then, because all of those are simply statements and as we know, statements are weightless.
Good stuff.
Originally posted by JuntaiI'd believe Superman as much as I'd believe Quicksilver. Depends on their personality and history of statements. Superman doesn't overtly lie but you don't have to cherrypick certain statements to know he sometimes overstates sh1t, e.g., most afraid of J'onn J'onnz in the universe, etc. Pietro in the mean time is one arrogant sumb1tch. But he is solely a speedster. So it kinda balances out. Boyscout who overstates the situation vs jerk whose entire career is about superspeed.

Agreed. But if the the slightest scrutinization reveals the prose as self-contradictory, leave it as hyperbole. Comics are inconsistent enough as they are with so many different writers. Trying to elevate a single questionable feat as if it ought to define a decades-old character (whose been interpreted by hundreds of writers) is unreliable apologetics at best, feat-fishing propaganda at worst.
Once again, agreed. Quicksilver operating on a scale well beyond light speed? Acting like three picoseconds are an eternity? Despite having little to no light superspeed feats? Maybe, just maybe chalk it up to self-aggrandization. Point of posting it is to see who is being consistent with their own standards much less wider KMC standards. Stirring the pot, as it were.
