Seeing the "left" as a single entity is silly, anyway. Communists disagree crucially socialists who disagree crucially with anarchists — they'd be termed the 'true left', perhaps — and all of them hate the centre-leftist types such as DemSocs, 'Liberals', Democrats, etc.

So anyone "leaving the left" to move over to the right isn't really leaving anything, they're just doing a performative game of "lookie at me", really. And in their hearts they were likely never committed to actual left-wing ideals or goals.
