What do you think of the Namor casting?

https://youtu.be/7FLecGvZGdc

The character is being played by a 5 foot 8 inch Mexican actor with a beard and mustache and is a little bit chubby around the waist, they've made Namor barely recognizable to the masses, what do you think?

Shouldn’t this be in the movie part of the forum?

lawest just learned how to cook ramen

he has pointy ears and wings on his ankles though, so there is that. mhmm

Before this gets moved, I'm perfectly fine with the Namor casting. Guy's got the smoldering look. Atlanteans don't need to look like real-life Olympic swimmers because you cannot expect such real-life physiques to apply to fictional Atlantean physiologies in any way. Fact is, they're going with an Aztec themed Atlantean culture. And the dude looks the part.

Don't need no pretty boy portraying Namor. Need a ruthless king who hates surface dwellers. That's when Namor is at his best.

Although... seeing blacks and latinos rooting for and against each other is kinda weird. I'm sure they'll reveal Doom as responsible for everything and make the white man the bad guy again.

That last part of your post.....'make the white man the bad guy again'....isn't that also a part of the real life you're making reference to? 😆😆😆

^ I don't want my comments to be construed as racist.

So let's be clear: the white man is to be blamed for everything. uhuh

His race and body shape (to a point) isn't the issue, it's his height. 5ft 8in? What the actual phuck?

^ Bruh. Tom Cruise is like 5'7" at best. Nobody cares.

Besides, it'd be funny to see M'Baku tower over Namor and try to fight him and get wrecked.

Winston Duke is 6'5". Just look at this:

You really think Namor is going to look distractingly short in this film?

Anyway, my hope is that Namor is only assaulting Wakanda because he desperately needs vibranium to stabilize the catastrophe that the awakened Celestial wrought on Atlantis in the wake of Eternals. Namor is so desperate but Wakanda cannot simply give up all its vibranium to a nation/culture it doesn't know about, let alone can trust.

So the over-arching conflict is not just a traditional good guys vs bad guys war or even a friendly misunderstanding between two nations manipulated by a mustache wielding villain (aka Doom). It's got legitimate stakes for both sides and no easy resolution is forthcoming and it'll take the best people of both sides to resolve.

One can only hope.

A lot of people in the YouTube commentary were disappointed with the casting of Namor but what disappointed people even more is that there will be no T'Challa to fight Namor one on one, many feel that the best way to have honored Chadwick Boseman would've been to recast T'Challa with another great actor, it was said that it is what his family and CB himself would have wanted.

^ Fair point. But consider that DC didn't want to recast Joker. And even when they did twice-over in non-continuity roles, people still focus on Heath Ledger's Joker. You just cannot escape the comparisons.

Maybe no actor wanted to step into those shoes and Feige and Coogler knew it?

It's a no-win situation. But you make the best of it and I trust Ryan Coogler to decide, this is a better story for me to tell than one where people are distracted by a different T'Challa actor.

Also consider that Wakanda is mainly represented by four women: the mother (Ramonda), the sister (Shuri), the lover (Nakia) and the friend (Okoye). I think this film will touch more on just race but also gender norms. And I'm all for it.

Yea I guess it all remains to be seen.

I don't like it. The Mayan Aztec look is cool and I do like that, but I don't see Namor in the casted actor. Just like I don't see Hercules in the MCU Hercules casting.
At the same time, I saw Thor in Chris Hemsworth and Loki in Tom Hiddleston, even before I ever saw the first Thor movie.

I have a very purist (PURIST, NOT RACIST) mindset when it comes to live comic book adaptions. I never liked Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, since Wolverine is supposed to be 5 feet tall and hair as **** - while Hugh Jackman makes me question my sexual orientation.

Totally agree here, the casting of Namor Hercules and Gilgamesh of the Eternals are all undersized actors by comparison to their comic book counterparts, but it's apparent that the casting producers don't really take that into consideration, it would be very comical to me to see Hugh Jackman's ( who is 6'2' ) Wolverine in a stare down against this Namor actor ( 5'8' ) very funny.
