I thought the fifth book was good, but not as good as the others. Maybe it's just me, but I thought it was kind of slow compared to the others...taking too long to build up to a climax that could have been better. I really liked the end, but the whole book seemed to be focusing on how angry Harry was, for whatever reason, and the outburst of his emotion that he had not previously expressed. While this is an important development, every event in the book seemed to rehash this point....and didn't really change until the scenes in the Department of Mysteries in the end. Good book overall, but it just wasn't my cup of tea, so to speak.
I was disappointed with this book, it seemed too disjointed, and all the characters seemed to act the same all the way through, Cho cried all the time, Harry was grumpy all the time, Sirius was fed up 'cos he was stuck in his house, all the time, o.k. some of those emotions may have been understandable in some instances, but for them to stay like that all the way through the book got a bit boring.
Also, I didn't really get the big climax, the big secret (spoiler coming up) that either Harry or Voldemort had to go for the other to exist? Wasn't that kind of self-evident since they'd been fighting each other since book one?!
However, the twins were cool in this book, and I like Snape a lot more, but I like Sirius and James Potter less. Up until that scene with Snape's memory, Sirius was my favourite character.
Book 3 remains my favourite.
Only Harry has the power to conquer Voldemort but that does not make him invoulnerable to other wizards. The curse could have rebounded onto Riddle either b/c of me ;-) or b/c of the prophecy... how Harry would be marked by the Dark Lord: perhaps it was due to both. Don't you lot read? Rowling spells it out for us. ~Lily Evens Potter~
I thought the 5th book was brilliant...even though Harry's attitude did get a bit out of hand all the time.
The whole "we need a body to be sure Sirius is 100% dead" thing, here's my two cents: JK Rowling herself said that people cant come back from the dead, and she also said ((quite clearly, actually)) that Sirius is, in fact, dead.
Dont get me wrong, Sirius is and always will be my favorite character, but theres just something in having him come back that I personally believe would sort of degrade what happened in Book 5. Do ya kinda get what I'm saying?
Yeah, I get ya. I think it's kinda wrong when there's a really emotional death scene and then, oh wait! they're not really dead. That's one thing that LOTR does quite a bit, now that I think about it, you think someone's gonna die and then five seconds later they're up and running about saying "It's fine, I'm not hurt!"
In myopinion this book sucks heres why
1. The book has very little action.
2. At the end of the book you feel like nothing really happens, ok little things happen like the date and the school and also some evil character's in the ministry of magic
3. Hagrid appears half way through the book and his reason for being gone is stupid.
4. SPOILER! harry has an enemy at the end of each book or he fights a big monster he doesn't fight a big monster in this book.
5. The ending felt rushed
that was the cons here are the pros
1. You will get to see why snape hates harry.
2. Lots of refferences to the last 4 books.
3. sets up the last 2 books.
ok so thats what i thought. This is basically just leading up to the last 2 books of the series, its sort of like a war of words, like the cold war where theres not much action just talking.
i thought it lacked action also, i also think its setting up alot for the other books. the ministry finally stops being ignorant to the fact the Voldemort returned. it will be interesting to see how the magic world will react. im looking for ward to see who the new dada teacher will be and what harry gets on his OWLS
Look, this book excells in one thing. You get to feel Harry's rage and feeling of impotence against the things that surround him. It just excell at giving you insight on a teenagers mind. His frustation his anger and the way he rebels it's just great. That's why there's so little action, it's more of a carachter seting. This is how Harry will behave for the rest of the series. He is now more mature, alert and conscious of what his destiny is. It's not just a curiosity now, it's his life. And THAT comes out crystal clear. No need for that much action, this is not The MAtrix
