What will happen to R2D2 and C3PO at the end of ep. 3?

i sense a certain insulting tone to that okay....i was just saying that as i kid i kind of thought of chewie only being able to converse with han, and then i realised it's just about everyone....it ties in with posts further back in the thread....

leave me alone, i've been getting up at 4 in the morning all week, i can barely think straight.....

I hope all SW fans get a memory wipe at the end of ROTS.

So who did they actually belong too at the begining of ANH, when aboard the blockade runner, was it captain antillies, captain corlton, bail organa, leia or were they simply work droids? leia could of simply took a random droid (artoo) to one side and recorded the message.

In my opinion, it was a mistake writing the 2 droids in to the PT as others have mentioned. When GL wrote ANH, he had some kind of a back story, I dont think R2 and 3P0 were part of it. Originally, I think his idea was that the first time the droids came in to contact with any of the skywalker family was when leia smashed artoo on the head and re programmed him with her message and the death star plans.

We all keep trying to work things out like "why doesnt obi-wan remember owning a droid?" and "did the droids have a memory wipe?" The only answer is Lucas had never planned on them being in the back story. Its like asking "why didnt obi-wan mention qui-gon?" The same reason!

why is it that the red R2 unit just HAPPENED to have a bad motivator
and blow up, right when it rolled off with luke?
if that *ahem* coincidence didnt happen, R2 would have been taken back into the sandcrawler, to later be found by the imperials.

I never thought of that, It just makes it an even bigger coincidence. What if the red r2 had been ok? would R2 of tracked obi-wan down without the help of luke? would obi-wan of seeked luke out for his assistance? R2 had been programmed to find obi-wan, luke just happened to buy em first. Would the empire of still of been destroyed without luke?

quigon was convinced that his meeting with young anakin was the work of
the force, so i think that we are led to believe that the force plays a strong role
in the way events are played out.

3po may be a blabbermouth but he does suffer from memory. he fails to recognise Anakin & Padme when they return tattoine in the desert .

He did recognize the Maker though even though he had changed a lot. His memory chips had different memories of them: Anakin was a cute little boy and PAdme was dressed as a farm girl.

well, whats important is not what happens in ep3, but what happens AFTER:

after the great purge, 3po and R2 will be consumed by depression and guilt. their relationship will deteriorate forcing them to separate.

3p0 would go on to be a failed screen writer. after 3 failed attempts depression would fully take hold of him, and cause him to attempt suicide by jumping into sarlaac on tatooine....however, he was spit out since sarlaac had no taste for droids.

R2 took an even more self destructive path, sinking into a lifestyle of debauchery. sex and drugs would consume his soul and nearly end his life. R2's lowpoint was starring in an underground hardcore droid porno:

after 3p0's near-death experience, he saw that he needed to rethink his life.
he decided to seek out his old friend and help him on the road to recovery.
R2 later spent 3 months in the Coroscant Droid Rehab, and has been clean and sober ever since. upon leaving the treatment center, R2 met up with his counterpart, and they decided to tour the galaxy in the tantive IV and, as they put it, "find themselves".

and the rest is history......

so you see, the trauma forced them to repress their memory of previous events.

well, thats my theory anyway
