This seems like the best explanation to me, and also I think it's possible for the above scenario to happen as well as a memory wipe, they wouldn't have to contradict each other. Bail Organa or someone else in that group could've done a partial wipe to protect the children and bury all the information of Anakin. Also, (much of this was stated before) if Vader wanted to cover something up, just destroy the droids...less trouble
Frankly, I don't buy any of that construed explaining. Droids can lie but 3PO for sure cannot keep a secret. He's a blabbermouth. And it all just doesn't make sense. Personally it didn't make sense to me why GL wanted the droids in the PT, they were a storyteling vehicle for the OT, which was inspired by Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress. They were NOT main characters, they were basically the 'eyes' through which we'd be witnessing the SW events in the OT. GL has changed their perspective by the way he placed them in the PT. And now he has to find some contrued way of tying it back together. THe only NORMAL way to do is is by a memory wipe.
the memory wipe is official PVS, straight from lucas, and a long time ago as well.....he's repeated it since so he hasn't forgotten it either....i won't repeat what i think about it again, it's all back there in the thread....
in reference to the translation discussion above, it's amazing how long it took me to think that through, i never really thought about it as a kid, but a few years ago i realised that han, obi wan, 3p0, r2 (i think) can all understand chewie....it's only the skywalker twins who are ignorant....and i think they might start to talk to him towards rotj (can't remember now).....basically leia's a spoilt rascist rich kid, and luke's an ignorant hillbilly.....i think there are similar observations to be made about r2, but can't remember now, i'll come back to it later....
