I was just talking with my friends last night about the possiblities for episodes 7-9. Here's what we came up with...
You can't have 7-9 without the original Luke and Han. Mark Hamil and Harrison Ford are way too old to play the roles now and it would just be completely stupid to try and cast look-alikes. It wouldn't be the same and most fans wouldn't accept it.
So here's the solution: Do the episodes completely CGI like the Final Fantasy movie and the Animatrix Final Flight of the Osiris. And have Hamil, Ford, and any other original cast members do the voiceovers for their CGI characters. CGI is good enough right now to make it look realistic and the special effects are limitless. And actually, I don't care if Lucas has anything to do with it or not. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a genious for creating this universe, but have you checked out the any of the expanded universe material out there? the storylines and writing are great.
I understand that some fans believe that Star Wars is just the story of Anakin/Vader and once he is dead there's no point in continuing with any more movies. But there are still those who love the whole Star Wars universe so much that they'll be craving for more. I think they could do a really good job with it and make all the fans who still want more after episode 3 really happy. Even if they just do any of the expanded universe plots like the Old Republic stuff it would be cool.
What'dya think?
Do the episodes completely CGI
Not bad idea Darth. Personally I believe their will be further Star Wars movies, tv-movies, tv show, and cartoons and what not, but I find it hard to imagine them bieng labeled Episode.....what ever. If anything it will probably be a bunch of spin-offs ya know, but with Star Wars I-VI being the core. Meaning you will follow adventures of other characters like Kyle Katarn, KOTOR, and not luke, han, anikan, ob1, and the gang. I would like to see what happens to luke and the gang, but honestly I have strong feeling this is what will probably happen. But knowing Lucas don't hold your breath.
Episode 7,8 and 9
I just saw on the news that Lucas has made his staff sign off on a non-disclosure after ROTS is finished....
It is a strong possibility he will begin production on Episode 7, 8 and 9....
Well, I would love to see that and what happens, but what directions does he take?
The route of the novels out now or does he screw the novels and do something else.....?
I have always been one to believe he would do something else with StarWars, but more along the lines of TV like Star Treks....
I think he see's so much more to be done with the Star Wars franchise beyond what has been done.....
'great now i cant find the linnk'
I dont think that he's screw over the novels because, even though he didnt come up with the ideas, the novels are still copyright lucasfilm, and if someone writes something that he doesnt like, then he wont allow it to be printed (eg a huge catastrophe in which all original characters from the movies are killed).

Couldn't be more wrong. Just because the EU has to keep some common sense in continuity with Lucas' storyline, he still completely ignores whatever contribution they make to their OWN continuity.
When GL writes he completely ignores the EU if it suits him.
As has been discussed many times, GL's original 7,8 and 9 ideas have long since been rendered irrelevant.
Yes; Gary Kurtz talked about the very early outlines they had for them- though it is worth noting all the films changed a fair bit from planning to writing to shooting (some more than others) so they only give a rough outline of the final product. Basically, however:
1. The Emperor would not have been in Episode VI, but the same fate would have happened in IX instead- that ending was eventually brought forwards to VI.
2. Leia would not have been Luke's sister; she would have been a new character for the sequel trilogy and one of the plots would have been Luke searching for her.
Basically, GL decided to end his story there and then when he made ROTJ, so the three films more that were originally there before that ending were rendered meaningless.
