whatever
firstly, as long as characters are still alive, their stories are never really finished (in fact witness ben, yoda etal: even death doesn't stop their plot-driving abilities).
second: sure, retire, no worries. by 'what would he do' i don't mean it's not possible for him to not make starwars movies. he could retire or make something else or trawl thru his works making Even Specialer Editions; maybe he'll do a special edition of American Graffitti or THX1138. it doesn't matter. what matters is whether it's good. if it's up for a vote, i say give the guy a chance to take it to another level. and how many of us will stubbornly refuse to go and see starwars vii if it comes out?
lastly, whatever he or anyone has said about what's happening is in no way legally binding, ie if he said he won't make more films, he is still allowed to 'change his mind'.

'Their' stories are irrelevant. THE story is that of Anakin Skywalker. It is done!
And of course he can change his mind. But you say he has no reason not to- that is untrue. It would only be true if the story were not complete. It will be.

so you are unable to see balance in 3 sets of 3 films?
numerologically speaking, the number nine is eternal. multiply 9 by any number eg 4, 8 or 594, and you will find the number always reverts to the no. 9 in basic numerology style reduction, to whit: 4 x 9 = 36, 8 x 9 = 72, 594 x 9 = 5346: 5 + 3 + 4 + 6 = 18: 1 + 8 =9.
so his best hope of acheiving immortality is by doing the whole triple triptych.
...
not my best point no, in fact it's not the point that it's 'nice', it's my point that it's a powerful number; unbreakable if you will. but the BEST points are a) he has every right to make them, whatever he's dec;ared re. whether he will or won't, and b) he might as well make them and any reason not to is merely avoiding the possibility inherent that doing so might acheive an extraordinary level of greatness, or not, but we won't know til he does it, and if he doesn't he never will.
Seems to be the only decent point you can come up with, Muntox. Of course he has a right to make them, but that has nothing to do with whether he should make them, and he has a GOOD reason not to make them- i.e. he has already finished the story! He has already achieved that extraordinary level with a completed piece. Doing more just to satisfy fan hunger would be an entirely negative thing.

Episode 7,8, and 9 will probably be made by us fans, as Lucas is an old and tired man who really doesn't care about Star Wars like we do. If he did he wouldn't be in it for the money and Episodes 1 and 2 wouldn't have sucked as bad.
you r trying to tell me that u r not mickey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!go away SS.fag we dont want u here!

so what if he doesn't? they won't make a new movie so what's the problem?
I was just wondering why? When they made EPII they invited him to be an extra - he turned them down flat - Also when anybody want to have a chat with him about his old SW days, he is very quickly to say no thanks. So what is his problem? Is there some feelings between him and GL? Was he not paid well or something?
Ush, I love how you've totally accepted that the stories are Anakin's just 'cause Lucas said it in one press conference. Thirty years ago, that wasn't the plan -- it was just a convenient way now to shut people up about the sequels. In thirty more years, it'll undoubtably change again. The fact is, Star Wars has grown BEYOND Lucas. WAY beyond. While Episodes 1 and 2 are decent, there are Star Wars stories out there that have no connection to Lucas at all that are way better than they are. Is it Lucas's baby? Undoubtably. Should he still be in total control, as the be all and end all of that baby? No...that's like saying that George Washington/his decendants should always be in control of America.
So in other words, two things: 1) Star Wars ain't about Lucas anymore. 2) There should never be a sequel trilogy. I think there will be, just like there's been far more extension of Star Trek then there ever should been, because there will always be people interested in the money Star Wars could make them. But I think to destroy the entire Expanded Universe by making something sub-par canon is a real crime.
Anyway, that's my rant for the day.
Uh Yeah? Well George Lucas hasn't been dead for 205 years, so what do think about that one. Your sequel trilogy has already been told through the EU so I wouldn't count on it. Any fandom goes beyond the creator. But you VengeanceGod or anybody else do not have any power in saying what is True Star Wars. I sure as hell don't. Only GL does. All I get to do is enjoy it if I'm lucky. It is possible there will be future films. But Don't count on them being called 7,8, and 9. I will be honest I am drunk while I'm writing this, but a sequel trilogy. No way in hell. The only people who seem to be interested (and this only what I've noticed on message boards I'm on;y makin a statement damn you Coors ans Jack Daniles). Are people over the age of 29. But that is just me. See you guys in the mornin.
