am i getting old or are my ears getting better

why does most of todays new rock sound the same... i can't tell the difference between incubus and stain and linkin park and bands like them... they all use the same heavy distortion that hides the fact that they play just 3 chords, and they look like the glam rockers of the 80's without the hair. they all want to kill themselves and whine too much... hopfully this new rock crap will fall by the wayside like disco and synth pop... but we can only pray. these rockers are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo contrived. i want original. i want talent. i want something more then a 4 beat. i want a good radio station. hopefully the pendulum will swing back, it always does.

Most of it is what they call emo... Its all the same crying music... Very few bands actually stick out and if they do they tend to be turned away from main stream and if they are main stream it is a god damn miracle.

incubus is ok. all the others you mentioned pretty much suck. stained used to be ok though

its the same cliche, self loathing bullshit that started in the early 90's, except now its just exploited, everyone wants a peice of the newest trend. this is the kind of rock that defies the old saying that "rock will never die" in the early 90's bands l;ike Nirvana, everclear, the misfits and greenday, all had whats known as talent with a genuine message. thats why there albums changed musicaly and ltricaly, because they grew and matured so it came out with there expression. theres still good rock out there you just have to look for it. 3 doors down is great not as hard but still good and theres always the classics and with the classics the list is pretty much endless. No your ears are just fine, infact there supperior to others you have the ability to wade through shit

Apropos the mediocre Rock scenario today, I would say the days of truely groundbreaking or inspired stuff are behind us ... I dont see anything coming along thats gonna change the sound or break new ground like Led Zep, or Zappa ....

However, I highly reccomend the band DREAM THEATRE - thats some seriously kick ass good music -

music is an endless universe. Grounf breaking is somthing thats not tried but accomplished, every thing thats so called ground breaking wasnt somthing the band was shooting for it was just there interpertaion of music and talent. All these maodern bands are trying to be new thats why they all sound the same, there trying the same bullshit and without talent or understanding of themselves it all sounds like muffled garbage, there given you what they think you want rather than a vision of there own

Of course they have a message. All bands do. It's just not ur traditional crappy old school messages, like those shitty bands of the political punk of the 70's messages. God i hate those old school crappy bands. Really piss the hell outa me. What pisses me off even more is how people actually like them. And all those old heavy metals bands also suck big ass balls. Ozzy sucks, Iron maiden sucks, guns n'roses sucks, poison sucks, the list goes on.

Thats not a message its just exploiting the emotions of their audience. the bands you spoke of that "suck" Took real problems of the day and sang about it but they did it in a way to where it could relate to anyone in some way and they still do. so that suckness you speak of is called talent its a shame that you cant understand it, and all those bands are the reason there is heavy metal and most of the rock bands today, to bad they diddnt learn from there talent

shit man you guys are all depressed. the only bands i recommend are the old stuff from Nirvana and Foo Fighters, and for these days, AFI.

I agree........I hear a song on the Radio I can't tell if it's Nickelback, Staind, or Disturbed...........the only new band I've heard I kind of like is Mudvayne..........and even they rip their sound from Gwar (actually from bands like Slipknot who stole their sound from Gwar.....so basically they're copying Gwar twice removed)

It's not just rock though.......it's all music right now. I can't tell the difference between a Backstreet Boys, 98 degrees, O-town, or NSYNC song either..................all the new suck ass crunk rap crap also sounds the same..........about the only rappers who are distinguishable from everybody else are ofcourse Snoop Dogg because he invented his own sound that nobody has been able to copy yet and Mystikal .........and that's probably because nobody else can rap like he can.

I think it is definately a case of each to their own.

Just because someone doesn't like someone elses fav sounds doesn't mean its sh*t and not music.

I personally llike what ever I'm in the mood for at any given time be it Jazz, Classical, Blues, or Death Metal.

This thread isn't about comparing genres.........ofcourse it's to each his own.......some people like Justin Timberlake...good for them....Justin needs fans too.............

The point is that most bands of a certain genre tend to sound the exact same.........
