Yeah I see your point, they're probably just cashing in on the current trend. Something to do with money I thinks....

Somebody earlier compared the rock of today sounding alike to the early nineties.............this is not a good comparison.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Alice in Chains..........none of them sounded ANYTHING alike.........they were all grouped into the same category (Alternative) because they didn't sound anything like metal (motorhead), rock (Poison, Bon Jovi), pop (NKOTB, Boyz to Men)..........they were all lumped together into the same category because all defied placement in the other genre categories.

These acts were all labeled as "Alternative" :

Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Alice in Chains
Mudhoney
Sonic Youth
R.E.M
Beck

None sound anything like the other..............hence it was a bad analogy whoever made it.

I sometimes think its the record companies and radio stations that add labels to bands in this way because they have to market them. It would be better if everyone dropped the discriptive genres and just got down to listening to the music and deciding for themselves if they like it or not, this way it would maybe stop some of the petty bickering.

I think it is definately a case of each to their own.

Just because someone doesn't like someone elses fav sounds doesn't mean its sh*t and not music.

I personally llike what ever I'm in the mood for at any given time be it Jazz, Classical, Blues, or Death Metal.

word up man. That's what i say...but i won't let the bands i love get trashed, and i won't let someone else call me ignorant and a dumbass just because i don't like the same music they do, you gotta fight for what you believe in right?

its the same cliche, self loathing bullshit that started in the early 90's, except now its just exploited, everyone wants a peice of the newest trend. this is the kind of rock that defies the old saying that "rock will never die" in the early 90's bands l;ike Nirvana, everclear, the misfits and greenday, all had whats known as talent with a genuine message. thats why there albums changed musicaly and ltricaly, because they grew and matured so it came out with there expression. theres still good rock out there you just have to look for it. 3 doors down is great not as hard but still good and theres always the classics and with the classics the list is pretty much endless. No your ears are just fine, infact there supperior to others you have the ability to wade through shit

Why is it a cliche? People write about things that affect them. ANd these bands write about those things, and people hear their message and they relate to it, that's why they become popular bands, because people can relate to the music. You don't know if the message is "genuwine" or not, you're not the band, you can't speak for them. That simple

well its hard to take someone seriously when they're complaining about their horrible life and how they hate their daddies and how their girlfriend in the 9th grade broke up with them, yet they have 13 million dollars sitting in the bank. some of the stuff is just nonsense that is actually laughable.

...um so what they have millions of dollars. Did you know that even rich people have feelings to? Oh jesus, it can't be!(sarcastic).

And remember they didn't have millions of dollars when they were in 9th grade. Is that also hard to believe?

Also to quote uncle ben from spiderman "these are the years when a person turns into the man he's going to be for the rest of his life."

So if they're singing about something that happened in middle school or high school OBVIOUSLY it impacted them in a big enough way for it to still affect them

Also keep in mind that these bands write about these things not just for themselves but in large part FOR the fans. The band went through the same things that their fans went through and they want these people to have somehting to relate to, and make them feel they aren't alone.

all i know is if i had a million dollars, i wouldnt care about a girl i lost in high school. id just buy another one.

pssh, talk about superficial thinking. To some emotions means more than money

well they need to learn to get over it, and quit putting bad lyrics into their bad music.

That's all you have to say. Get over it? So if something that meant a lot of you suddenly vanished or if someone you loved died you wouldn't feel pain at all. So basically you hate everyone. Ok i can deal with that.

And why are their lyrics bad? and why is their music bad?

their lyrics are bad because they are shallow, their music is bad because it isnt discernable. listen to bands like cold, staind, creed and nickelback. they all sound the same, as does bands like good charlette, blink 182, american hi fi and other bad punk bands. all they do is whine whine whine. if you want good music, please to listen to tool, or dredg, or pantera.

DUde i listen to Tool. I love tool. My all time favorite song is "the Patient"

I hate pantera, utter crap. Can't even understand what they're ****ing saying. I hate that.

I don't liek creed, i don't listen to cold, i don't listen to nickelback either. I listen to stainds old stuff though, and it's great music.

Do you know who's lyrics suck ass. All those hippy craps. Bob dylan sucks ass too. I don't see how people lyrics to that shit. And again it's not whining it's talking/singing about something that means something TO THEM, and obviously since they have fans it means something to the fans. Why is that so hard to understand. I'm sorry if i don't listen to music that sings about nothing.

linkins parks lyrics are the worst i have ever heard in my life. at least blink 182's lyrics arent pretending to be deep, like stainds and linkin park.

Why "pretending" to be "deep." AND i also hate the word "deep." to describe lyrics. The plain and simple fact that i'll state over and over, the band makes lyrics that means somehting to them, and their fans relate to it. And they're great lyrics.

when they complain about the same things over and over, and putting false emotion into their music over something that common sense says they couldnt possibly still be bitter or angry about, all these bands do is whine, whine, whine, about the same things, good bands have diversity. neither of these do. staind always sings about how he blames his father, linkin park sings about wanting to be listened too (every single they have had, he says something to the extent of "shut up when im talking to you, dont turn you're back on me, you'll listen whether you want to or not) maybe they need to realize that people will listen to them when they have something new or innovative to say.

....You keep saying things like "false emotion" ...and i keep asking you to basically prove it! Prove to me, and everyone else that they don't mean what they say with facts. But you can't, so stop making an argument with nothing to back it up on. And so what if staind sings about blaming his father for something. That affected him a lot, so he sings about it. So what if linkin park sings about wanting to be listened to. Doesn't everyone want to be listened to. Obviously this affects them a lot, so they write and sing about it.

WHy don't you do us the courtesy of mentioning some bands you like besides the three you mentioned as well.

they write about it because they havent gone through any real turmoil in their life. and like i said, if the guy wants people to listen to him, he should have something worthwhile to say. not the same thing over and over and over again.

and if you want bands i like, here you go.

korn
slayer
pantera
dredg
tool
SOAD
slipknot
mudvayne
deftones
fear factory
smashing pumpkins
nothingface
rob zombie

OK out of those i also like

korn
tool
system of a down
smashing pumpkins(one of my all time favorite bands)
and mudvayne and slipnot or mediocre(it's a shame i can't understand wtf they're saying most the time)

and again, prove they haven't gone through any "real turmoil in their life"

and wtf is "real turmoil anyway" You're defitnion of "real turmoil" may be different than mine, or the next persons

real turmoil is something out of the norm that every other person hasnt gone through and gotten over in their life. everyone has had their heart broken, everyone has been angry with their parents, doesnt mean they should all go out and write a bad song about it. again, no facts, facts do not exist when it comes to opinions. i suggest you get a new defense, or else you're discussions will become very repetitive and people wont want to discuss with you because you arent capable of it without asking for phantom facts. everything is opinion on this site, you can argue without presenting facts, and on this site, you have to, and i suggest you learn.
