holy, talk about tearing each other's assholes. i have to say i agree with Evil Dead (hey man you're the same age as me and i think you obviously know your stuff pretty well! 😉 well done!) and as for the crowd who's picking on 113, cut him a break. he knows his stuff too, just some mistakes were made maybe, no big deal. here's what i think:
mostly MTV (and other music industries and radios popular these days) will play anything that is mostly requested, not what is actually classified as "good music" - this really pisses me off because the more this shitty music is being played, the more the kids (who are slaves to whatever they hear) will follow it. man, these kids need some good music to listen to and follow, not some crummy boy-bands that sing about love with no depth in their lyrics. they need good idols to look up to and can relate to at the same time. and if MTV etc. is going to play the most crappiest music ever made, then these kids are ganna get friggin brainwashed by no feel in any kind of genre in music (literally).
MTV will never play good music because it only wants to play what it thinks the majority of the audience wants to hear... and what people want is throw away trash that doesn't take any kind of effort to listen to, it wants bland, over-produced, commercial crap... which is why they mostly play cheesy commercial bubblegum pop.
MTV does play music other than pop, say 'pop-punk' or generic 'nu-metal' but thats only after they are kind of popular already...
OK so every now and again something a bit different sneaks through (I refuse lump SOAD into any of the above categories) but that happens once in a blue moon.
I can tell the difference between those bands you described as sounding the same so I don't think they are that alike, but when you compare them to bands like Metallica and so on, they sound very similar... Not that I listen to bands like Creed and Nickleback, not my kind of thing at all. So I agree mostly that a large proportion of bands sound very, not exactly, but very alike.
As for the lyrics I agree that when most bands write music/lyrics they are doing it for popularities sake, but I don't think that is the only reason, for instance Chester Bennington has been through some seriously bad sh!t in his life, drug addiction, he was sexually abused as a child and other pretty bad stuff, so I think that a lot of what he write comes from the heart.
Though I do agree that they often write what they think people want to hear, Linkin Park have admitted too writing so that anyone can relate to the songs, when they should be writing whatever comes from their hearts so I agree and disagree with that and Linkin Park don't just sing about being listened too... If you think that I suggest you listen too 'My December', 'Pushing Me Away' and 'Carousel'.

Do you know who's lyrics suck ass. All those hippy craps. Bob dylan sucks ass too. I don't see how people lyrics to that shit. And again it's not whining it's talking/singing about something that means something TO THEM, and obviously since they have fans it means something to the fans. Why is that so hard to understand. I'm sorry if i don't listen to music that sings about nothing.
Bob Dylan did greater and more influential music than your gay bands could ever think of possibly hoping to begin to ponder about dreaming of making.
also this thread is a bit narrowminded...the bands you mentioned are pretty mainstream and generic, ignoring the really good bands that are out atm...
The Mars Volta - groundbreaking album, very talented musically
Dillinger Escape Plan - obviously not to everyone's tastes, but definately some of the most talented musicians out there atm...and you cant say they sound the same as anyone lol 😛
cant name anymore off the top of my head tbh..
But you need to make a more broad look at todays music before you condemn it all...listening to 2 or 3 generic nu-metal bands and then saying that all todays music sucks is kinda ignorant.
the fact is there are quite a few talented and groundbreaking bands out there atm, but bands today are so scared of "selling-out" that theyd rather keep themselves rooted outside the media's attention the majority of the time.....
and also the majority of CD buyers atm are younger audiences, more interested in buying songs they saw on MTV than looking for decent music. and the shame is that most decent music now isnt getting a look in, because the majority of people are just settling for downloading the CD rather than buying it.
