Your logic is impecable.

Right now, I could go for some Ichikaru ramen. Sounds REALLY good right now.

Speaking of ninja ramen, I went to this place that served Iga Ramen (the store had ninja themed decorations) when I was in Japan. Best Ramen I ever had.

The ramen chefs i've always assumed were ninjas because they lived in the hidden village instead of the regular cities in the LoF. Just because you are a ninja doesn't mean you have to be in active service.

correct.

the only difference with lee is that he wanted to be a ninja anyway, and luckily for him maito gai is basically bruce lee on roids.

to lee`s credit, he pretty much mastered one of the three branches of shinobi arts, which sort of overcompensate for his lack of ninjutsu and genjutsu.

Gai uses Chakra in his Taijutsu though. If lee can't do that, then he won't be able to reach Gai's level.

So is he just untalented or does he have a legit disability?
All the manga says is that he has no talent for ninjutsu or genjutsu. So I think if he really tried he could pull one of. But then again there is nonneed for him to have it since his taijutsu is so good.

Yeah but for him to get as good as Gai he'll have to learn how to use jutsu in his taijutsu.

Didn't Gai say that he was like Lee when he was young?

i dunno, in this time of need you'd think they'd get all ninjas to go into active service, everyone has to make sacrifices and i think ramen would have to one of them

I also doubt everybody would want to be a ninja. They know what they are getting into when they join, death at a young age most likely. And the ones who decide to give up after the first failure to become genin. And everybody Kakashi has failed he probably scared away from becoming ninja.

They need people to provide food, to build the houses, to keep the electricity running... if everyone in konoha was in active service the country would collapse. I suppose maybe what I should say is everyone in Konoha possesses at least some education in ninjutsu, even if the academy was as far as they ever got. I mean, everytime we've seen a relative of any character, they've been a ninja. I don't really think it's an optional thing in Konoha.

i guess that makes sense, the academy would then just be a screening process to see which kids have talent for being a ninja and stuff, then go to a regular school if they don't, though there is no mention, iirc, of any kind of "regular" school

That's what lead me to the belief that they are all ninja. I mean look, you have the land of fire, which has numerous "regular" cities, and then you have Konoha, a city specifically for training ninja. It seems to me that only ninjas would live in the city that was specifically for ninjas, otherwise they'd be elsewhere in the land of fire.

I think everyone in Konoha goes to the academy, and most of them pass it. However, after passing the academy, many stop there and get supportive jobs in Konoha. Or they become Genin, Chunin, maybe even Jonin but eventually retire, start a family, get less stressful jobs.

It was the Uchiha clan that really makes me think this way. Sasuke's mother was a housewife and not in active duty, but she had the sharingan nonetheless. There clearly must have been a point where she was a ninja. In fact the wikia page says she's a jonin. This tells me that not all ninja are in active duty, and thus the people in alternative occupations are ninja more likely than not.

Shit!

Turns out Danzo wasn't Uchiha Madara.

Kishimoto really likes to mess things up.

I was saying the whole time it was a transplant...

Alright vthis is I think it is.
Three ways to be a ninja
1. your parent was a ninja you are going to be one also.
2. If your clan has a power useful to the country you will be a ninja.
3. If your non-ninja paerents allow you to sign up for being an academy student. Seeing as how being a ninja is every boys dream

I can't really think of a good reason for a non-ninja to live in the hidden village of ninjas.

... to cook ramen?

^exactly, maybe the ramen chefs came from outside the hidden leaf village(lets face it, its not really all that hidden) to find jobs and stuff and cater to the military, or to move in with their spouses, cos i don't think Ino's mum is a ninja, and i don't know anything about Sakura's parents

Apparently no one's heard of ramen no jutsu.

And what are you talkin' about, stick? The Village Hidden in the Big Ass Crater is very much hidden now.
