He never had any respect to begin with in the Kage summit, and when Ao uncovered the manipulation plot they stopped even trusting him. Long before he ran out, and Sasuke attacked..well not long but still. If Mizukage, Ao, and Choujuro show up, and suddenly see him fighting Sasuke, and Madara then start trusting, and following him I will be mad. Not to mention he tried to kill Ao, and take his Byakugan. So that's even worse if they follow him. Save him I can see happening but just to catch him themselves, and a free attempt to kill Sasuke and Madara.

I suppose his sword skills make up for his lack of hand-to-hand combat. In the anime, he manages to hold his own against Kirabi's sword play for a while, but he still gets pwned of course.

Guess we will never know why he never uses it. Though I wonder if Sasuke would have been able to return himself or if Suigetsu had to summon.
