Hinata was originally supposed to be the heir hence the lack, and Hanabe has that role now... both seem to still be main despite all this.

I'm guessing Hizashi may have been designated a leader of a branch house instead of part of the main one because of worries of succession between two twin brothers. Or maybe there's a number limit on how many can be main house, or simply that when someone is born into the main house the Hyuuga born next will become branch to be their protector (ala Neji). He got screwed over however you slice it.

We know that the main house isn't just the heir to the clan and their successors, this pic clearly shows there's others.

Internal Japanese family politics can be complicated and have fairly arcane rules.

Guess nobody will ever know how Main and Branch are decided in the Hyuuga.

Showing the ability to do stuff greater than their predecessors is really what they're talking about.

That'd be true if several conditions were not already met:

1. Naruto developed a move that surpassed Kakshi.
2. Naruto defeated a dude that Kakshi could not.
3. Kakshi himself said that Naruto was now stronger than he was...which was before his Sage Mastery and Toad Taijutsu training.

In other words, when they say that Naruto suprassed them, they actually meant it.

If they meant "surpassed my ability to use shape and X chakra manipulation" they would have said so.

What Q99 said could be true. I know the "arcane rules" bit is.

Once he learns to control the Kyuubi's hatred, he'll know that it's love for Sasuke, not lust.

It's no different from Neji and his Byakugan, or Sakura and her excellent chakra control, or Kakashi and his Sharingan, or B and his beast, the Hachibi.

They are just tools that said Shinobi have learned to harness effectively.

Nah. Take Sakura out of the mix, man. She may have a natural affinity for chakra control, but it's a skill she worked hard at.

She always had excellent chakra control. She just learned how to harness it properly as time passed.

i guess since hinata isn't considered powerful by hiashi, before hinabi reached three years old he made her the heir to the family. not sure if main family can be demoted or just kinda allowed to do whatever, she's kuranei's problem i guess

It doesn't make sense if time of birth was what decided who went into the Main Family and who went into the Branch Family.

Neji is a Branch Family member by birth (i.e. because his father was a Branch Member, he is as well).
If it were decided by the time of birth, Neji should never have become a Branch member, since he was the only and oldest child of Hizashi. He should have become a Main Family member instead.

Hinata is Main Family member, by birth as well.

Looking at it that way, the Branch Family seems to be a completely different line from the Main Family.
So one way Hiashi and Hizashi ended up in different families, is if a person from the Main family humped another person from the Branch Family and the product was Hiashi and Hizashi.

Maybe Hanabi was branch family, but they took her out of it when they realized the main branch needed an heir and Hinata was sucking big time.

1.
a) Kakashi stated that she was better than Sasuke when it came to using chakra effectively
b) Ebisu said she never wasted chakra unlike Naruto or Sasuke (when trying to train Naruto)
c) I believe she was said to be a genjutsu type from the start (takes good chakra control for genjutsu affinity)

2. I assumed you were saying that she gained good chakra control by training with Tsunade, when it's shown that she's had good chakra control from the beginning.

Otherwise, yeah, she learned how to use it for her strength, in other words, harness it, which is what I was saying from the beginning.

Just to add something:

Apparently, Kakashi trained to get Kamui. It's possible other MS users could use Kamui, since it says "one."
