Probably, (1) being an Uzumaki he'd be very well suited for it, there wasn't much time to scout around for suitable hosts, (2) he did want to give Naruto the power to protect himself and be a hero, trusting in his son to be able to face Madara (and knowing that a Namikaze without the beast's power would likely do no better than him), and (3) that way the parents can leave messages for him.

Also the two grown jinchuuriki (Kushina, Bee) seemed to have been prepared for it ahead of time. Gaara was given his as a baby as well.

Hm... if they did do an older ninja it'd presumably be one of the 'future badass brigade' kids that Kurenai's dad had sealed from the fight. Of those, I think Asuma would be the most logical pick, though we don't know if Sarutobi chakra would be well-suited for the job.

The reason for choosing Naruto was explained when Naruto met his dad.

It was to give his son the power to defeat Madara.

Maybe because he didn't know anyone who'd be strong enough, so he wanted to make someone strong enough. He thought a child with Uzumaki and Namikaze chakra and abilities and under the guidance of Sarutobi and Jiraiya would be the best chance at training someone strong enough to beat Madara.

minato basically gave madara 16 years to mess the world up and gather troops.

for ex. deidara's only 3 years older than naruto, he wouldn't have been a threat at all if minato picked say...kakashi.

In fact, Kakashi's bane has been that he doesn't have near unlimited Chakra like Bee, Naruto, and Jiraiya.

Am I the only one somewhat surprised by how overwhelmingly fail Madara is? People talk about his powers like their broken, but look at his track record.

*Tries to take over Konoha once. Loses to a guy who's special ability is creating trees. Flees*

*Somewhere down the line attempts to kill someone whose special ability is creating rocks. Fails. Flees*

*Manages to kill two relatively no-name high level ANBU. Loses an arm in the process and damn near dies.*

*Creates an elaborate plan to destroy Konoha using the 9-tails. Loses to Minato. Fails. Flees*

I mean, really? 😐

Though, I prefer villains like him and Orochimaru to people like Aizen. Getting your ass kicked adds some humanity to your character.

Personally I suspect Kakashi's small chakra supply would make him pretty ill-suited for being host.

If he actually managed to contain it it'd be awesome, but it might be much harder for his body to contain the Kyuubi than Naruto's. As a kid he'd even have much less than at the start of the series.

Also, he did take over Mist for awhile and then controlled a later Kage there. Put together Akatsuki, thus stealing 7 of the 9 Biju. And we know isn't exactly at top.

I'll just comment I like how one doesn't have to be a major character to be badass in Naruto. These two clearly were A+ ninja with badass powers, they'd be Jonin easily if they were part of normal rank structure.

Not to mention he was going to kill Kabuto but Edo Tensei pretty much made him shit himself and team up instead.

Though in his defense, it wasn't even all of Akatsuki popping up again that made him worried, just whatever... the last one was. The Akatsuki just made him willing to deal.
