Sasuke was having serious trouble with, like, 10 incomplete Izanagi. Madara can do it once without going blind, and at the time had probably no replacements, or potential replacements worth mentioning.

He wasn't in danger of dying against Minato, nor was it his only option for survival. Alternatively, he had not mastered Izanagi then, or it was just PIS/CIS.
Besides, it would just give Minato more info on Madara's abilities, not that that might have been a reason.

Hmmm, it occurs to me that Madara probably engineered the tension between the Uchiha and Konoha so he could help Itachi murder them all then swoop in and steal some eyes. Iirc Danzo got some (Damn my crappy memory) but he only had about 12 or so eyes, it was implied there were hundreds of Uchiha (again, only iirc) so I'm wonderin' where the rest of the eyes went. I can't think of any other reason why he'd help murder his own clan.
Or this is already common knowledge and I'm just too fried to remember.
Oh yea, on the rankings-
Where would Kabuto (pre-merge) rank? He was talked up a lot and sometimes he was fairly impressive, but sometimes not.
Also, the various parents of the Konoha 11, and Shizune.

He also wanted revenge, but yea, getting a bunch of eyes no doubt played a role.

I thought we put him at A+? Orochimaru stated he was as strong as Kakashi in part 1, or something to that effect.
As for post merger, he's easily S+, if not SS thanks to Edo Tensei and Manda v2.

Ok, A+ it is, and it was pretty impressive how he did against Tsunade.
Post-merge I don't think he's a rank above Oro, though I do agree that he's S+.
For the parents, I'm thinking Kiba's mom might be B+ (she's a special jonin and we haven't seen anything to put her higher), most of the parents are A, Shizune too (or would she be A-? Very strong drugs/poisons and medical skills, though suffers some hth vulnerability), and Hiashi/Hizashi are A+.

I disagree. Any B-class ninja could have destroyed her, utterly. Just shows how crap Kabuto was in that fight.
He lost to 12-year old Naruto. Naruto knew an A-class technique and an S-class technique: rasengan and mass shadow clone. He was slow as crap, though.
Also, Jiraiya was drugged like a mo and could barely do crap. It was only through his sheer awsomeness and willpower that he mustered enough coordination to do crap.
On top of that, Oro had no use of his arms: probably the most masterful person at Jutsus in the world at that time, lost the ability to do hand seals.
