Pretty much, which is why I think he should be in the Close/Mid Range Division. He should have decent close-range techs thanks to Raiton, and he's got Sword Skills.

Yet his father, who can reach the same size with greater ease, is in Mid-Range. Chouji isn't often seen using his Super-size tech, and I cannot remember if he uses it in Part 2.

I mean, the reasons for joining in are legitimate, but I'm guessing he's been a general without a war for awhile, he seems to love this whole thing.

Their chakra blades looked pretty good (good enough for combat with normal ninja at least), and Mifune himself could match Sasuke in swordplay.
So not useless, but if the ninja don't mess with them, they do seem a bit unnecessary.
i want kimimaro for her because her strength might negate some of his bone density and might make the fight more interesting IMO
the Sakura vs Sasori fight is still one of my favorite fights of the series so i want to see her fight again but i DON'T want just a bunch of rematches

I'm guessing they do have some of the other categories in each one- Close has some close/mid people, close/mid has both close and mid, mid'll have some long and some close, and so on.
They complain about his youth when it comes to village leadership, but as a general his jobs are simply going to be inspiration, fighting and strategy, and he's got a ton of aid in strategy. It's sort of a safe position for a young Kage, if he can't cut it another general like Mifune could step up so the risk is minimal, while it's still important enough to not be disrespectful, and a good use of his well-liked status.
While his youth is a disadvantage in the political area, there's also the matter that aside from it, I'd think he's the most liked of the five, with no grudged against him existing, making him great for a figurehead.

Solution
Assume that the two tortoise have equal density for each finite volume element (If the small tortoise consist of 80% water, so should the big one--basically that it's nothing but a difference in volume).
Apply the deduced formula.
Answer
1.16*10^14 [kg]. Around the weight of the worlds largest mountains.
Though the real question is whether he carried its full weight or used some jutsu.
