Ninjutsu I could see (or heck, even Jiraiya's advantage), but gen? Naah, not even close.

Itachi has stronger ninjutsu but Jiraiya has more useful ones that are not as costly. Taijutsu is certainly Jiraiya's advantage thanks to Sage Mode. But I have yet to see anyone match Itachi in genjutsu.

Actually, that guy was pretty odd. Seemed under the impression that Sasuke could be taken right out of the story and it wouldn't change a thing.

So what was the final consensus on that manga scan of Itachi saying that even with more men he couldn't kill Jiraiya without dying in the process? Mistranslated scan yay or nay?

Itachi lying, yay. Or at least that seems most logical.

Seriously though, Itachi would kill Jiraiya. It would be close but Itachi would inevitably win.

I dunno if you could call it lying. Itachi literally failed in his mission to catch Naruto by falling back against Jiraiya, even though Kisame was also there as back-up.

Itachi was a good guy though and obviously would not want to do anything that would put Konoha in danger. And he was a master liar. That and I see nothing Jiraiya has that would make me believe he could beat Itachi.

I haven't seen that one. The translation I read just said he wouldn't want to fight Jiraiya.

Also, he had used the Mangekyo multiple times already while Jiraiya was fresh.

Oh, yea, he totally didn't care about Naruto. What he did care about was reminding Konoha that he was there and that the deal was still on.

Nothing that would get past Susano'o anyway. Susano'o pretty much decides it for Itachi.

Point is Kishi can't have her be able to do it now. The sheer stupidity of it would be career suicide.

Kishi's been pretty good at making all the technical stuff consistent. Character decisions can be odd, but jutsu never just change up on you.

Hyuga don't use genjutsu. Not a single one of them has a genjutsu rating above 2, even Hiashi and Hizashi!

Oh, you know? Maybe it was a disease reference, and even back then he knew it'd be pushing himself too hard.

"I could win using Susano'o pretty surely, but, well..."

Maybe not dying immediately or anything, but it'd drastically shorten his lifespan and leave him unable to give Sasuke his eyes.

And she had the opportunity to and chose NOT to. So I'm leaning with the "unethical" portion as actually being the truth. If she revived the 4th Hokage, that would completely ruin the sacrifices he made for the people and make it trivial. She'd also have to use Oro's unethical methods, in combination with her own, to accomplish it, I believe. That's 2 very good reasons not to revive the 4th.

Hmm. Yeah, I'd give him a 7 out of 10 on trying to make it consistant. I'd give the fans a 15 out of 10 on trying to "retcon" and adapt things to work on making what he's done consistant.

Take away bloodlines, itachi could still win, but I find it unlikely, he would have an incredibly hard time as it is, Jiraya most likely knows how to counter MOST of Itachi's cheap moves...but then susanoo just takes the cake...and eats it in front of Jiraya, and he cries, cuz he is so hungry.
