Well Shino'd get beat by all the others anyway. Sasuke's too fast, Gaara's too Gaara, Temari blows his bugs away and KO's him pretty damn quick and Naruto spams Shadow clones, the bugs can't keep up with that many people.

By the second round there's an even number, 4. Shino got a bye because Kankuro quit... which I bet he probably wouldn't if things were proper, but he'd win that, barely.

Wha? Sasuke 'hit' Gaara, as in he was bleeding, but he didn't beat him. We saw exactly how a real Gaara vs Sasuke fight would go in the forest. Sasuke got his ass completely handed to him.

Eh? You mean the Gaara who, for the longest time, needed to be carried by his siblings through the forrest while he was in a barely functional state of mind? Cause, ya know, when Sasuke stopped his transformation, it really seemed to do a number on Gaara. Seems to me the officials, who were hesitant about letting Sasuke compete at all, would certainly intervene if the mentally unstable host was about to go nuts. 😮

Yeah, that's assuming the match officials would allow Gaara to fully transform. Hell, that's assuming Gaara would even try to transform again, after getting mind-****ed from the wound he got from the Chidori, in addition to the side-effects he was feeling from trying to transform.

Sasuke would pwn him, be it Sasuke with MS or with Orochimaru absorbed. The former has insane hax, while the latter has the CS, Manda, and Kirin.

I'd say that Sasuke would have lost to Gaara.
I'm positive that Naruto would have lost to Shino. And Shika would have definitely lost to Sasuke or Gaara (depending on who would have won that fight.)
Temari would beat Naruto and possibly Sasuke. She would definitely lose to Shino.
My results, assuming no Gaara:
1 and 2. Shino or Sasuke.
3. Temari.
4. Naruto.
I don't think Gaara would progress because they would take him out of the equation.

After Gaara partially transformed Sasuke got his ass kicked. Gaara was literally laughing at him during the entire fight.

I disagree. Remember Shino only has so many bugs, after all he stores them in his body. I don't think he has enough to defend against 50+ shadow clones bullrushing him and delivering an Uzumaki beatdown. Not even Gaara could do that.

Naruto did not undergo a visible physical transformation, nor was he a known sociopath. Besides, all they saw was a hand made of sand.
And then Sasuke nailed him with the Chidori, which screwed him up so badly that he could barely stand, and he was at a point where someone like Sakura could beat him. 😐
It's only thanks to Temari, Kankuro, and the Invasion Plan, that the 'fight' even got to a point where Gaara could near-fully transform and pwn Sasuke. Therefore, if the chuunin exams had progressed normally, Gaara would have lost.
Nor could his bugs stop Gamabunta from sitting on him.

Gamabunta is also randomly thrown in there. Dude tends to pick and choose his own battles. I can't see him deciding to fight people that aren't going to be worth the effort of raising his knife. I also don't see Gamakichi saying something like "Pa, that Uchiha kid smacked me!" So yeah, don't see him coming into play.
Naruto vs Shino and Sasuke vs Temari would be the semi finals. Naruto has the chakra capacity to make it through Shino though it would wear him down. I'd see Naruto either spamming clones like crazy or using Kyuubi chakra to try and pull off a win. Temari I do not see beating Sasuke. Natural advantage combined with overall faster taijutsu makes him a much harder threat to beat than Shikamaru. Her summon could help but I'd still give it to Sasuke.
Coming down to Naruto vs Sasuke. Sasuke certainly has the speed advantage unless Naruto uses his fox powah. Sasuke also has fire techniques which Naruto is not accustomed to fighting, and really has no answer to without rasengan. Clones would offer great assistance in a fight like this though Sasuke has shown to be quite aware of Naruto's slyness with clones and would not be as surprised as anyone else.
So I am actually leaning to Sasuke. That is until Naruto goes 1 tail or Sasuke goes curse mark. Whichever comes first, the fight ends there. And it would likely be Sasuke who goes that far first.
As for who is made Chunnin....Shino, depending on how he handles Naruto in a fight. If we go ahead and assume a fight between him and Kankuro took place, that fight alone might give Shino the respect he needs to be Chunnin. Temari is notable and depending on how she handles Sasuke in a fight, she may be made Chunnin. Sasuke has shown a lot of talent in exploiting his enemies weakness and likely could be made Chunnin on that merrit though he has less a chance than the last two but more than Naruto.

All that needs to be done is to summon him, which in of itself will be quite a major distraction to whichever opponent Naruto's facing, never mind the chance that Gamabunta will be on top of them.
As to the reason I say Naruto wins the tourney, is simply because of his near-endless stamina. The entire tourney takes place in one day, and combatants probably get at most, a half-hour of rest.
Just using one Chidori takes a chunk out of Sasuke's chakra capacity, and I do not think he'd use the Cursed Seal against Naruto. Some of the Jounin might step in if he did, Kakashi included. We also don't know for how long he'd be able to keep up his speed in the final match. Though I give Naruto higher odds, Sasuke could likely pull off a win with his ninjutsu & taijutsu.
Yeah, the dude officiating the matches (Genma?) noted that Sasuke was already at a Chuunin level. Whether he was talking about the level of skill or actual rank, I do not know.

I just see Shino effing up any and all plans that anyone could come up with.
I would say that Sasuke would be a good match due to his lightning...but he had not developed his tech to be like that, yet. I don't think Naruto would do anything, either. He'd get bugs on him, lose his chakra, Shino takes the Chakra, Shino knocks him out, and the match ends.
Temari is the same: more bugs.

I agree. This is why I was saying that She could beat Sasuke.
Edit - I hope to hell Kishi does a Chuunin exams thing after the great Shinobi war. I hope it's something like: "Naruto, you can be Hokage IFF you complete the Chuunin Exams and past the Jounin aptitude test."
The Chuunin exam could be more for fun or something. He could be the Sarutobi's boy's mentor throughout the exams.
