No one can deny that Naruto has some of the best battle smarts out there. In fact, I don't think it was in character for Naruto do do that rasengan thing. Kishimoto had established that Naruto was a more "battle smart" ninja so that seemed a bit out of character for the more mature Naruto.

Against A, a gai Naruto could have easily pwned if he wanted to. Against Nagato though, it was all Itachi, baby.

Itachi's too kewl & awesome for those two. That's why he left them, after Naruto was dumbstruck, and Bee went fangurl for him. awesome

Naruto has a very different kind of intelligence than the one we usually have in mind. He's not bright in the traditional sense, but he's creative and deceitful when he needs to be, as he has repeatedly demonstrated.

From what we've seen, yeah, I'd wager he's up there with Sasuke in terms of battle smarts.

It was more of a desperation attack. But meh, I don't really care about this point enough to discuss it with you.

I disagree. Bee prevented Naruto's soul from being sucked out. Sure, he didn't defeat Nagato..but he delayed Nagato from killing Naruto. In that sense, Bee saved Naruto's life.

I disagree but only a little bit. Naruto has shown genuine intelligence such as quickly deducing things about Nagato that people who are "supposedly" smarter than Naruto could not figure out or took a while to figure out.

It's almost as if Kishimoto does not realize that he's creating a character who is an illogical idiot savant.

Takes more than just "putting your life on the line for those you care about" to be Hokage. There was some truth to Itachi's words. Naruto was trying to do nearly everything by himself.
Kakashi would also put his life on the line, and even give it up, but he states he isn't suited for the job, and he's a 73.

What things are you referring to? The only thing I can remember was locating Nagato, and that was pretty smart, but they took so long because they didn't have his chakra sensing capabilities.

Not really. Cause, apparantly...

1. Not being an idiot in diplomacy is not required (double negative...basically, you can be an idiot in diplomacy and still be Hokage).
2. Being willing to do the paperwork of a politician is not required. 3. Having patience is not required.
4. Not being a perv is not required (same meaning as 1).
5. And you don't have to be the most powerful ninja in the village, either.

It would seem the only requirements to be hokage are 2 things:

1. One of the most powerful if not the most powerful ninja in Konoha.
2. Strong convinction to the people to the point of giving your life.

It just so happens that Sarutobi was good at everything except point 4. 😄

Being prepared is how I've factored in others as well.

I think massive prep that takes years kind of makes any ninja with half a brain uber awesome. I think the cutoff should be 5 minutes of prep.

And wasn't that sea made of her own paper tags? Meaning...that's her ability. Kind of like Gaara controlling sand...except it's paper.

I think their combat strength is similar and could see Chiyo with the edge, but the support power is a difference.

Without any prep she's immune to taijutsu, blocked Jiraiya's fire jutsu with a basic paper-cloud, could hit people with hundreds of tags, do super-hard to avoid clouds of blades, and even do a non-tag version of the chasm. Plus flying as a cloud of paper airplanes is just cool.

I dunno, Konan impresses me a lot even without prep.

Nah, the paper split the lake in two. It wasn't the lake. And yeah, it's like Gaara controlling sand. I.e, whenever Gaara does something large scale with sand, it's a feat. Same with Konan but with paper.

You always get butt-hurt whenever bewbs or character traits come up. 😛

Useless on land without the exploding tags though, except to maybe limit the enemy's movements; but yeah, a very uber tech, even if it is just a regular paper version.
Still, she's easily a S or S- without the advantages she had against Madara.
