Those two outcomes are not the only possible ones.
His plan with the Zetsu could still have failed anyway. The SA stalled them; in the end, Tobi lost more Zetsu than the SA did ninja, and that was with them beefed up by Kabuto.

Kensei fought Wonderweiss. Aizen didn't stop him. Now if only Yamamoto had had the good sense to fight him alongside the other captains instead of waiting until his allies had all fallen.
It doesn't. If the Shinobi Alliance get butt-f*cked, Tobi will still be able to get Naruto and Bee. It's just the long way of doing things.
Stalled=/=being able to do anything. It would be a slow process to be sure, but Tobi's forces were perfectly disguised. The Shinobi really lacked a way of dealing with them.
Mind...the Shinobi could stand around all day, playing the staring contest with Zetsu and I suppose both sides are in trouble. Means Tobi will have to go and kill them himself. No big whoop.

And, I don't care if we go off topic too much as long as we are relating it back to Naruto eventually. This topic, for me, is more about contrasting it with the story telling of Naruto.Naruto story telling is a 7 to 7.5 for me (on a 10 point scale).
Negima is a 4 (not particularly enjoyable but not horrible).
5 is average/mediocre.
The Fountain's story is a 9 for me, to put on scale what I give out for truly amazing stories.

I was TOLD it would get better. I was told this multiple times by someone I respected and liked. I gave that person the benefit of the doubt even after I whined about it not being very good multiple times: chapter 20, chapter 50 and prolly chapter 70.
