The Yule Ball

COurtney described the two perfectly.

Maik thanked her again, then left the hall. She felt terrible. Courtney had described the boy she had been dancing with perfectly. The went to the lake and spotted the Huberts. They walked over and Maik tapped Descartes on the shoulder. "Are you Descartes Hubert?"

Descartes turned and smiled. "Yes." he said looking at Maik. "Is something wrong? You were smiling when we danced."

Sonia looked at Elrohir. What was going on. She wasn't dense.

Maik swallowed. "I don't believe we were properly introduced. I'm Maik Fingon." She pointed to Elrohir "This is Elrohir Celebrian, my partner. We're aurors for the ministry of Magic. We need you and your sister to come with us please."

Sonia blinked and felt her heart plummet. Descartes held her hand. "I guess we really can't refuse, can we?" he said softly. He glanced at Sonia who was already blinking back tears.

Morgan stopped a moment to look around. "Hey, Rhia?" "Hmmm?" she answered, her head on Harry's shoulder as the slow dance processed. Morgan looked at her hard over Andrew's shoulder, swaying to the music. "that girl you had me tell about that letter thing to.....Where did she go?" Rhia lifted her head. "Maik? She left with her partner a while ago." "partner?" Morgan asked blankly. "Yeah," Rhia said, waving her hand, "her auror partner." "She's an auror? I thought she was still at Hogwarts! What was she doing here?" Morgan exclaimed. people turned around to look at her, but she ignored them. "Looking for the letter, duh!" Rhia said. "But it's gone." "Exactly. That's what you told her." Morgan shook her head. "I've got to find her, I want to understand what is going on." Morgan excused herself from the dance. Andrew looked hurt, but cheered up when she promised him the next dance. Morgan raced outside, just in time to see Maik, her partner, Elrohir, Descartes, and Sonia talking. Sonia was crying. "Hey!, Hey, wait up!" Morgan called, and rushed towards them.

Maik whirled around and glared at Morgan. "You again! What do you want?" Her brother stood in front of the Huberts, looking confused. "Who is that?"

"The letter, what was that about?"

"Letter?" Sonia asked confused. Small tears still fell down her cheeks.Descartes however looked the exact opposite.

"No, Morgan, you should go back inside with the others. It concerns are parents."

"precisely." Maik agreed. "Now, if you don't mind, i'm in a bit of a rush. Huberts to save, a murderer to catch, you know how it is."
Elrohir moved to sonia's side and whispered in her ear. "Are you going to be ok?"

"I'll be fine." she replied trying to wipe her tears away.

Descartes shoved Elrohir away. "Touch my sister and I'll kill you."

"Descartes, are you crazy?" Sonia gasped.

In an instant Maik was between Elrohir and Descartes, her wand pointed at his throat. "Back off." she hissed, her eyes a dangerous color of red. Elrohir tried to apologise, but Maik cut him off, conjuring ropes to bind Descartes' hands. "Don't. Touch. My brother. EVER."

Sonia took a step backas the ropes bound Descartes wrists. She was at his side instantly trying to untie them. This only made her cry hardeer which made her fumble with the ropes worse.

Elrohir gently pulled Sonia away from Descartes. "Calm down! She just lost her temper, is all." He looked over at Maik, but she refused to look at him. "We need to get back to the ministry. I've wasted too much time here as it is."

Sonia tried to look at Elrohir. "W. . .What did we ever do to you?"

"It's what your parents did." Maik said. "Or didn't do. The sooner we get back to the ministry the sooner I can finally sort all this out." She started walking back to where they had left the portkey, glancing anxiously at her pocketwatch.
"I'm sorry I grabbed you like that." Elrohir apologised quietly, letting Sonia go.

Sonia nodded. "I. . .It's okay." she said softly standing beside Descartes. He kissed her fore head before following Elrohir and Maik.

Maik stood in front of the boot. Once everyone was there they all touched it and were swept back to the ministry. She took them to the interrigation room where their parents were and let them in, first untying Descartes' hands.

SOnia and Descartes ran to their parents hugging them. Sonia started crying again. It had been months since she had seen either one. "Mother." she whispered.

Maik and Elrohir stood in the doorway feeling awkward. "I'll just go and get Johnson then." Maik muttered and left. Elrohir didn't know what to do, so he conjured chairs for the Huberts. "you should sit down. This will probably take a while."
