i saw this movie on friday and was REALLY disappointed. WHY? the Predator's were pretty much ***** SLAPPED!!! I'm a HUGE pred fan, but knowing that anderson was already alien biased (read his interviews, he brags about how strong and how much he likes the aliens, never mentions the preds), but i never would have IMAGINED that he would have killed off 2/3 of the pred team by ONE alien!!!!! If you've played the games or read the comics, then you know preds can easily take on 5-10 aliens. Somehow, though, in anderson's movie-ruining mind, he figures out that a single alien can kill 2 preds. Even in the games on the hardest difficulty level, you can ONLY fight 2 preds with the alien.... cuz any more and you would just be raped.Also.. he made the aliens too smart (freeing the queen by sacrficiing theselves.) they are supposed to be mindless killing machines. ONly in alien: ressurrectin were they somewhat intelligent, and that was because they were genetically altered....
I give the movie a 3/10

Yes, i own nearly all comics pertaining to aliens and predator. I have also read all the aliens vs predator comiics and novels. The original comics and published novel cannot be compared to the film. The original story conceraning action is just out and out mayhem. However, this would have been impossible to transfer to film without the film being dominated by CGI, Anderson wanted to avoid CGI as much as possible. The plot in the original novel is the same exact thing we got in the film, just altered to be able to have taken place on Earth. The stories are different, but the plot of the predators brining aliens to Earth to hunt is the same. Actually many things in the film shadow the original story.
I cannot see how anyone could say that the movie was written to have the predators on the losing side. This is just a fact of the alien vs predator history. Three predators Vs an entire brood of aliens. Of course they are going to be outnumbered, but on the losing side? Well if the predators werent as challenged as they were, there wouldnt have been much suspense. Aliens are greatly underated for their ass kicking abilities.Their existence give them their traits in professional killing and hunting, the predators training and weapons is what give them their abilities. I have always considered the predator an underdog in a fight with the aliens, and i have been a fan since i was 9
Yeah the cast wasnt perfect and was the biggest downfall of the film. The dialogue wasnt very smart. However, The Predators and aliens were everything they were supposed to be. They held a presence on the screen that was reminscant from the originals. the plot concept was an original idea and a great set up for the battle of Aliens and predator, but unfortunately after the plot set up was given nothing else was given to elaborate on it.the action is eigther going to be liked or disliked, it is that simple. I personally liked it alot. It is not your average action movie action sequence, but still executes with suspense. This was a fan film, not everyone is going to like it. Anderson did his homework on the two creatures and gave us everything we love about them. He stuck to animatronics and suits because he knew that is what we want. He could have taken the easy route and did the majority in CGI, but he cares. You also have to take in account for the cast, and lack of action sequances the budget of the movie. The budget was fairly low, the meat of it went to giving us the original creatures and set designs we love, which i greatly appreciate
The reason the alien and predator franchise failed is because they always tried to break away from what worked, and what the fans wanted, to try somthing new. Anderson stuck with what worked and what we wanted as the fans, loved about these two so much. He gave us a simple story, because all we wanted to see was simply aliens and predator back up on the big screen in the way we remembered them.
If the movie makes enough money there will be a sequal, and that is where we will see all original idea's,with elaborated action, but with this one Anderson chose to keep it simple and give back the fans their aliens and predator. Dont look for a sequal though, i doubt this movie will make more than 70 million at the most.
I see many people complain about the first half hour being nothing but talking. this was all story set up done in the same way of the original alien, aliens, and predator
Thanks for clearin' that up. I appreciated the fact that Anderson stuck to the puppeteered Aliens, and the old school feel to the whole movie.
That said; has anyone pinpointed exactly where this would fall in the order of the 2 franchises movies? I believe both Predator films were set in the modern day, and "AVP" was set in 2004.
The reason I ask is, I could have sworn I saw mostly "Dog Aliens", and that breed of Alien wasn't introduced until "Alien 3", which was set in the year 2325, I believe.

okay, Pred one took place the year it was made (87, i think...) Pred two took place in the "future" in 1998. AvP takes place in 2004 (october 10, to be exact**) Alien 1 took place in an unknown year... alien 2 (or aliens) took place 56 years later. Alien 3 took place a few weeks or months after 2, and had charles bishop III as a character (Charles Bishop I was killed in AvP, as an old man, so I'm guessing Alien 3 was about 70 years after AvP, making Alien 1 about 20 years after AvP).
** the whole "october 10" deal was idiotic. They made it october 10, based on an aztec calendar, then said "hey, 10/10, that means the pyramid shifts every 10 minutes!" No, you're wrong. Cuz the aztecs didn't have a 12-month year, and even if they did, our "october" wasn't even a month until some hundred years A.D!!!!

The budget could have been much higher if someone else would have directed it for example James Cameron.
Its going to bring in more than 70 million since its already around about 50 million. Besides his other film Resident Evil did horribly at the box office but still there is a sequel being released soon.
People complain about the talking because the actors were no more talented than an actor or actress in a toothbrush commercial.
Now moving on, I have one question.
Spoiler:
If the Predators can scan the insides of a person or other living thing why didn't they realize that there was a an alien inside the dead Predators stomache? They must have scanned him in order to figure out he was dead right?
Anderson Answers Alien vs. Predator Questions

Bloody-Disgusting has a report from a recent screening of Alien vs. Predator which included a Q&A with the film's writer and producer Paul W.S. Anderson. Here's an interesting bit...
About the studio's cutting of the film, which he had no control over, he said, and I quote, "All of the best scenes were cut." Anderson was obviously very annoyed at the way the film was released. However, this was not purely because of the PG-13 limitation, which incidentally, the studio enforced THREE WEEKS before the release date! It was always going to be R until then. Part of the reason for the cutting was that some of the effects were not ready by the time the release date came around. The effects team had very little time to do anything.
As far as the content that was cut, apparently we see all those who die, die on screen, but he also said that there is a sub-plot that we will have to wait for on DVD. Yes there will be an R-rated Director's cut DVD although they don't know the release date yet.
No no, I'm a huge fan of the old Aliens and Pred movies, they were fantastic, but this one, had less violence, a dum ending, and it left little to the imagination.
*Spoiler*
So let's say the baby alien in the pred's chest lived, okay, he's in a ship packed with Preds, okay, there's no freakin way that he'll survive, then again, if he hides, and waits till they arrive on Preddy planet, he's gonna muliply? Then there will be a scary pred/alien fusion monster? Ha! That's so lame. Especially when the Pred carved that aliens skull to equip the girl with a shield, what the hell was that?? Argh, bad film!
