THere is HISTORICAL EVIDENCE. Why do you all insist that there is not HISTORICAL evidence? Here is a link from the Discovery Channel called MEET THE REAL EVE: THE MOTHER OF US ALL. They did the facial reconstruction of a woman found in Israel.

dsc.discovery.com/convergence/realeve/realeve.html

Believe me the Discovery Channel didn't create that show to benefit Black people. Shoot, we already know that we came from Africa. The show was created to EDUCATE white people that you too were once AFRICAN.

Also, the other historical evidence is that WE KNOW THAT JESUS WAS A NAZARENE. And the NAZARENE's wore their hair in dreadlocks and never cut it. NAZAR means "unshorn."

The reality is that even Jesus' name wasn't Jesus. The movie was truthful about his name. It was Yeshua. Jesus was a name given by the Greeks just like they titled Zeus and other gods. Christ is a European title just like the word "LORD."

I also never heard of a white man with hair like sheep's wool. I never heard of a white man with feet like burnt brass. It's part of a conspiracy to take a way a man's history or anything that will BENEFIT Black people.

And now that we know the truth about Jesus' complexion, I keep hearing "it doesn't matter." But let me ask you this. What if Mel Gibson told the FULL TRUTH and used a black actor to play the role. Would you all have been talking about that?

Mel Gibson is an ACTOR. And he made an awful lot of money to make this moviel. It was released at Easter and not the 4th of July. He knew exactly what he was doing when he did it.

Peace, Kenya

That, again from the Discovery Channel- which is hardly the undeniable repository of all knowledge- was SUPPOSITION. There is no such proven thing as the 'real Eve'- it is simply a theory and 'Eve' is simply being used as a point of reference anyway. You need to stop picking and choosing with your 'facts'- look beyond a tv station and you might find things are a little more complex.

My reply: the fact of the matter is that BLACK is a loosely used term for certain groups of people. It is anyone who is non-white. For that matter, I am not BLACK...I am brown, a little reddish, and I look like the color of mahogany. I am part African, white, and Native American but I have enough African features and nappy hair to be classified in this country as BLACK.

But my color is not black.

I am referring to the fact that Jesus had MELANIN in his skin. And the reality is that a black man could have played the Hollywood Jesus besides a BLUE EYED European.

Why are non-white people and white people not interested in talking about the fact that this man is white and JESUS wasn't? And yes, we do know the truth that Jesus was not white.

I am not talking about the spirit, I am not talking about him after he rose from the dead. I am talking about the nappy-headed, woolly haired, brassy feet MAN. A real man...and he was black, non-white, had melanin in his skin, was dark tan, dark red, brown, dark brown, cocoa complexion, etc. The bottom line is that he was NOT EUROPEAN. He was a NAZARENE from 2000 years ago.

Peace, Kenya

Because we don't care? Like I say, no-one knows what Jesus looked like. So as far as I concerned, any decent actor can play him, and to get bogged down in something like that is to totally miss the point.

Like I say, the Bible's only descriptive passage about Jesus has him as a very ugly person. No-one wants to do THAT on screen either- there is just no point trying to be literal with things that really have no solid facts behind them.

I don't care a tiny toss what colour Jesus was. But that the actor who played him is a white European makes no difference to the quality of the role. Frankly, I do not see what him being 'European' has to do with it at all. Would an American be more accurate? No.

Your attempt to play the race card is pretty tiresome as well- that BBC investigation had him the same colour as your typical Spaniard or Italian. It simply concluded that he would have had a swarthy complexion- not close to being what the average person would call a black man. In which case any possible inconsistency would have nothing to do with suppressing black history at all. You might have a theory that it does- but it is just that, a theory. Like I keep saying, there are no hard facts about is appearance to work with, and his appearance is disputed. In any case, making this a racial issue brings this thread into an area that violates the rules of the board about political subjects.

Face it, no-one cares, and the reason no-one cares is because it is really not important or relevant to the quality of the film. It is like all thise people moaning that he should have been speaking Greek rather than Latin. Who the hell cares?

Now, people here want to discuss the movie itself and not this rather irrelevant off-shoot. As I suspect you are only going to repeat the same things again- as you already have several times- I consider this matter now closed. You have made your point, thankyou.

It is like all thise people moaning that he should have been speaking Greek rather than Latin.
I thought they spoke Aramaic in this film 😕

they spoke latin ,hebrew, and aramaic... so that is what i hear.

the greek is new to me 😑

Latin and Aramaic I think (with no subTITles??)

he's right kenya, the race thing doesn't matter in the movie, it's jsut the message that the movie represents

About the language thing, some scholars have said thast the points at which he spoke Latin he SHOULD have been speaking Greek. Again, it is a disputed area and Mel just made a judgment call.

To the arguement about Jesus's race or whether he was white or black. He was Jewish/Hebrew. So if you want a closer look as to what Jesus probably looked like, try seeing what a Jewish person that lives around Jerusalem looks like today!! Of course he wasnt european, thats is just idiotic and so is trying to say he was black! To most people white means european and black means -african.

Jesus would have been of olive complextion and dark hair with dark brownish eyes. He didnt have dread locks who ever said that! And Christ- doesnt just mean Lord it means the annointed one or the messiah! Yes it is greek as is the name Jesus.SInce they dont speak hebrew in england where the bible was translated into english from greel, we took the greek translation of his name. That again is not a big deal so get over it. I would dare say that more people have been brought to him through the name of Jesus than of Yeshua, so I dont think that he would mind the translation!

It is a fact that Greek would have been spoken in and around Jerusalem during that time! As to when it would have been spoken is not something that can be proven because not one who is alive today was alive then! Its just a lame way for non believers to bash the movie and Mel Gibson!

well...somebody has prolly already said this, but i didn't take the time to read the whole thread, so, sorry! but anyways, i just got back from watching the Passion, and it was the most moving and intense movie i've ever seen. I suppose it was extra intense for me b/c i'm a christian. So as i watched it i was thinking about how he suffered and died for me. How he hung on that cross for hours so that i could live. Such love is unimaginable. But we are all loved w/ such a love, no matter what, and thats what blows me away. So, i would recommend this movie to everybody. There is no way that you can watch it w/o being impacted, its too intense. its only rated "R" for Reality, cuz what you see is what really happened. (but i suppose that point is what were debating about right now)

Absolutely; this sort of thing is extremely picky.

Its just a lame way for non believers to bash the movie and Mel Gibson!
why is it that it is the non believers that always get blamed?
I am a non believer and dont bash it, I look uppon it as yet another story nothing more.

errgh 😠 i still haven't been able to see the movie yet 😒

perhaps it's a sign you're worshipping the wrong dude 😉

❌ 😛 nope i've just been to busy, anyway i'm gonna go see it on friday or sometime during the weekend *shrugs*

never wiould I worship a dude, if it was a female though I might kept a piccie of her

i cried thrugh the whole thing and like an hour after.. i am a catholic and this movie meant soo much to me... i didnt think it was anti-semetic at all!!! it was almost completly accurate according to the bible.. just they shuld have been speaking greek.. but to get bacc on topic that was always how i pictured jesus... i always pictured him as not bad looking and dark hair dark eyes and olive skin.. btw jim caviezel was AMAZING!!!

Oh wow I just came back from seeing the movie!

no no!

I rarely cry in movies but wow this one touched me I was bawling throughout the crucification, I was crying so hard, like i could hear myself !! i have never cried so much in a movie...this was very good!
Another part I cried in was when his mother told him I'm here! wow !
This was beautifully done and it really touched me.

If your a believer or a non-believer it doesnt matter, people who havent seen this movie should really see it.

Mel GIbson did an awesome job!

I am neither Christian or Jewish, but I did see the movie today & thought it was a fantastic film. Mel Gibson has created a work of art with this(that is quite brutal at times). As far as the controversy goes, I took the persecutors of Jesus as individuals trying to protect their self-interests, and not one religion vs. another. I suppose you have to see it from a biased religious perspective to perceive any anti-Semitism. Basically, anyone that did not already have a negative opinion of Jewish people or faith would not gain one after seeing this film. Those that already do...well they're already haters, so it doesn't really matter what excuses they use to justify their ignorance.

just they shuld have been speaking greek
why? they still debate wheter they used Aramaic, Greek or Hebrew.
Jesus probably used Aramaic as his primary language besides that he used Hebrew and Greek as well. So if POTC should be completley accurate they should use all three languages. Some used Latin as well so they were tri-lingual with a possibility of being quadri-lingual.

i have one question about POTC .. who was that pale bald guy ? !
