It wasnt made to entertain in your opinion it might have been but Mel wanted to show what christ final hours are like.He didnt want people to have a good time he wanted people to be shocked and stunned at what Christ went threw.

Kes please dont close the thread its good debate/discussion thread just kick off any people that bash or talk about religion after youve told them not to.

But when I get to college im gonna either be a chef or a director and if I be a director im gonna make a movie called "The Fire" and its gonna be about hell and just how horrible it is.Because when people say im gonna go to hell to be with my friend or I wanna go to hell or dont care where they go im gonna show them what there saying. And thats a pure example of why Mel made the movie he made it to inform not to make money.

if he wanted to show that, he EASILY could have decreased the hype, the attention, etc.

here's a good idea .... get it straight on video/dvd!

Do you have a good time watching a movie about the Holocaust victims? Its the same thing.

think is a lot of ppl even devoted christians dont believe in hell

I dont care alot of people do.

Kes I wouldnt be entertained of a movie about that holocaust thats sick. This movie was made to inform people about christ final hours.I didnt see it with a huge bag of popcorn and a soda it wasnt entertainment to me and it shouldnt be to anyone else.

if people want to be informed about his final hours, the book and PREVIOUSLY made movies fit it EXCELLENT

this was just made to get money, not for the message

this was definetly not made for money. Mel Gibson made this movie because he thought he was losing faith. And God told his heart to make this film. Sure the previous ones are classics, but this one cpatured it perfectly.

oh and punker69, and didnt see anyone eating food or talking to anyone else in the movie either. It was a very crucial film, as was Shindler's List, another classic that I own. Of course, when it came out, I was too young to understand it, or see it for that matter.

oh yeah, lost faith in god and got more in money 😂

all the trailers and hype was just promoting seeing it. Even a dvd was released for christians promoting the film, where Mel Gibson was interviewed and so was Jim Caviezel. Billy Graham talked on a few radio stations about it. It ws promoted in a very christian way, and for non-christians to see the light.

yup, that's the way to promote your movie ... TO GET MORE MONEY IN!

if it really was about the message and not the money, what on earth is wrong with releasing it straight to the dvd/video? money is not the deal than

But you see, plenty of people went through that. The Romans were a brutal group of people.

How do you know what hell is like or if there even is a hell? And how do you know what Mel's intentions were? You don't. And it's because of people like us arguing about the movie that made it do so well, not because it was a great movie. A movie, band, piece of art, or whatever that is considered controversial will draw the attention of the public. And when we feed ht efire like we are it just helps it along.

I hate movie theater popcorn, but I went in there with a giant soda. This movie did absolutely nothing for me and I didn't even cringe on the bad parts. It sure as hell didn't live up to the hype....but I didn't expect it to.

Jeff Atalo,I dont know what hell is or where it is but I do know there is one.It says in the bible hell is a lake of fire and anybody that is not serving Jesus is going there. But thats just what I believe and you can believe what you want I dont really care(Kes forgive me for going off topic)

And yerssot you need to shut up and quit saying he did it for money he didnt whether you like it or not.It people like you that put down Mel and critisize him for wanting to show Christ final hours in a bloody shocking way.

"the Book"????? 😑

"the previously made movies"? Such as Jesus Christ Superstar? I certainly hope you aren't talking about that JOKE. Yes there are other movies that have been made that are done well, but none were done in the same manner as The Passion. None were as specific as to the final hours of Jesus' life. This isn't a movie about the life of Jesus, but it's a movie about his death. It really doesn't compare with any of the others.

If this movie was done for money, why would Gibson shell out his own personal bank account to finance it? If it was done for money, don't you think that the money grubbing shitbags in Hollywood would have all been clamoring to jump on board? Hell not. For whatever reason you want to believe it was made is up to you, right or wrong. Personally, I'd say that the LAST reason that Gibson did this movie was for the motivation of money.

I saw a huge making of...go figure.
He could have just made the movie (everyone would know about it anyway) and thats it.

pipe down punker69, if you can't handle critisism over a damn movie, get out of here 🙄
I don't put him down, I put his stupid movie down AND him wanting the money.

and no, didn't mentioned JC superstar; there was one on yesterday, dunno what it was called, didn't watched it.
and saying he financed it himself is the biggest BS that you can give when you say "he didn't do it about the money"

It's exactly what you SHOULD do to get money! you don't get hollywood on your back, cutting in and giving the budget etc. You only give them some money to distribute it but THAT'S IT.
George Lucas (just naming him, cause he's the best example) made the new star wars movies ALSO out of his own pocket, can you even GUESS how damn rich he got of making them himself???

Lucas is a horrible example and you're way off on that one. You don't really know how Hollywood is run, do you? It's OK that you don't, but it's also obvious that you don't.

it's always nice if you explain things when you accuse people
