Missing my point again. There's a difference between going out of your way to disrespect Mel Gibson, which all of you are guilty of with your personal smear campaigns, and basically giving a reason or two why it didn't do anything for you.
Instead, people go out of their way, citing totally unrelelated reasons for disliking the movie, and resorting to putdowns. Is everyone here totally devoid of common debating logic, much less, respect?
i.e. I liked "The Passion" because it was well acted out, it seemed authentic, and flowed with the biblical storytelling.
or
i.e. I dislike "The Passion" because it was a little too long, the acting wasn't up to par, and it wasn't entertaining.
Totally respectable reasons and ways of explaining why you didn't like it, instead of criticizing someone's bankroll, their supposed evil intentions for doing said movie, and how Christians are dumb, and the movie sucks.
If people want to be taken seriously, and their opinions heard, there's proper ways of conducting yourselves, especially when dealing with topics such as Christianity in movies and the like.
Of course, I realize there are mostly kids in the forum who may or may not know any better, so I have learned to take most everything with a grain of salt.
beg your pardon cinemaddiction, but from some members I know they are holding back most of their critisism so religious people won't get hurt, if you want to take that away of them.... hope you don't get pissed of easily
and I would continue about his bankroll, but Kes explicitly said to stop talking about it
Yersot,I dont know where it is in the bible but it says *keep your tongue from evil* FELTCH my youth pastor taught about this and sex before marriage the other week and I cant remember the references. And dont say Jesus was a ridiculous person that going way beyond your opinion of this movie its not appropiate in this thread or any other thread. And dont call me immiture when your the one being closed minded and saying that a movie millions of people where touched by was horrible.
You know im fine with you not likeing the movie I dont care.Just dont say Mel did it for money and say bad things about my savior when you dont know what your talking about.
And I really want to know if your a mod because I dont like you repeating Kes like a mockingbird!

EDITAs for the whipping scene, why do you people feel the need to blow it so far out of proportion? It was about 7 or 8 minutes out of a 120 minute movie. To say that Jesus being beat to death was what the majority of the movie was about is foolish and ignorant.
If you didn't like it, fine. Don't go out of your way to disrespect those of us who did indeed like it. Doing things to spite others when it comes to relgious beliefs is something that no one should stand for, or tolerate. Especially on this board.
Grow up, it's a movie. 🙄
It was pretty much beating after beating....In the Garden of Gathsemeny, During his trials, the whipping, the carrying of the cross....that entire movie was the beating(s) of Jesus. There were a few other things in there, but it was really just beating after beating.

it says you shouldn't curse because it brings curses upon your life, big and or little, therefore i'm trying to cut down, just the other day, i said like sh*t or somethign and then i accidentally spilled hot caramel on my hand and got a second degree burn... coincidence... not for me. that's why i'm trying to stop.
Yesterday I said shit and then took one the size of Tokyo...what does that mean?
So tell me...God allowed the thought of cussing to be placed in my mind, which, in turn, means it is okay for me to cuss.
Anyway, it's not the word itself that caused that. Chances are, it was the fact that you said the word, and you are trying to cut down on cussing, that made you spill the caramel. It's a psychological thing...you had been trying so hard to quit cussing that when you did cuss it made you mad, which caused you to get burned. And don't actions speak louder than words, as Jesus clearly stated by his actions?
BTW...the reference you are looking for is somewhere in the book of James.
Ok, well how about this?
The movie was redundant, boring, and actually seemed to exploit jesus's death more then anything. Mel simply tried to hard to get a rise out of the audience by making the last 45 minutes of the film nothing more then jesus getting tortured in some way or another. It was basically a 15 minute story stretched out into 2 hours of blood, guts, and overly ridiculous gore.
For example, that scene in which jesus gets whipped and that hunk of flesh flies off, what was the point of that? To get an easy, cheap response from the viewer. That most likely didn't happen to jesus when he was killed, but it was put in the movie anyways, simply for shock value. I think Mel lost his message somewhere in the redundant scenes of torture and watch jewish people in the; movie mock jesus for his pain.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but if can find 1 redeeming factor outside of just "I like those movies" or the "entertainment value" in any of your own horror movies you've listed, you have ZERO room to criticize Mel Gibson on this film.

"What was the point"?! Obviously you either don't know or don't care to know the story so "the point" went right over your head, unfortunately.

I'm not gonna start over with the moneytalk like some did *smacks finti*
but we have give reasons why we dislike it ... all what the ones can say that did like it is "you're closeminded!" "he didn't do it for that reason!" "he worked hard!" "it's accurate"
well, I bloody hope he worked hard on it and got it accurate! that's the least you can hope from a history-movie!
dispite what some movies show... most movies have a STANDARD so saying things like "good camerawork" or "good acting"... so what? that should they have done in the first place!

The Passion isn’t a horror movie. Backfire’s statement could have been made by someone who had Bring it On and E.T. listed as their favorite movies and it would (should) have been perceived in the same context.
Scenes like that in which the shock value is there exist for a reason in his films, and that is something Mel likes to do. I am indifferent towards them but questioning a part being in a movie for shock value alone has nothing to do with being a fan of the horror genre.
Is The Passion a horror movie....NO its not a horror movie in the cheap sense of horror that someone like backfire enjoys. I applaud the guy who called out backfire for his attack on THE Passion for being too graphic and having too much gore! Come on, that is toooo funny but is really sad at the same time!
But yes The Passion IS a horror movie in the sense that it showed the TRUE, ACTUAL "horror" that Jesus endured during the scourging and crucifixtion!! I think it was also backfire that open his uninformed mouth and stated that the scene where the piece of flesh of Jesus was ripped out was unrealistic and unecessary gore?? Do you even know what "scourging" IS, well I do and I suggest you read up on it and BE informed before you make such a ridiculous claim!! For your information MANY men died during the scourging itself! The romans used a weapon called a "flagrum" which was a whip with tail that spread out into 3 or 4 other "tails" and at the end of these tails they attached pieces of bone and metal designed to "RIP" out pieces of flesh from the persons back! 40 lashes were customary. The back would most times be the conistancy of raw hamburger once they were finished. I think if you have seen the movie you will see that they indeed showed what probably happened based on what history KNOWS of scourging!
HOw someone who enjoys a movie (actually states its their fav of all time)like TCM which shows a girl being placed on a hook , cut up with a chainsaw, treated like an animal, and other horrible things has the GALL to attack a movie which shows an historical event but labels it as being too gory or showing unecessary violence is a JOKE!!

I truly dont understadn what everyone expected of this film. This is one film that delivered exactly what it promiced. It was the last 12 hours of Jesus's life...and the film was about the last 12 hours of his life. I would understand your argument if the film was about Jesus's life and it overcontrencated on the killing. that then would have been over the top.

there are historical evidence that all the tools used to tourchure Jesus in the film have been used by the Romans.
Second of all, for all we know the whole thing could not be correct. You dont know that, its been done by a book. Mel gibson didnt make this all up, so ''it probably wasnt true''. It might not have been true, but it might have been, that argument is stupid as you cant prove either way.
According to the bible Gibson used all those scenes were the last 12 hours of Jesus's life, and for what its worth, it was well made.
He told the story as the story had been told all theses years, true or not, i dont understand what everyone expected...its the story he put in pictures, his interpretation of the STORY THAT ALREADY EXISTED!
Its not like he made up the idea of the story and thought of the cahracters, so its too violent and horrible and he did a bad job.
yes , yerssot an HISTORICAL event! Its recorded you know! Even if you dont believe in the truth of Jesus, then you can at least read on the true history of scourging and crucifixtion.
Seeing how this over 2000 years old and well documented in Roman and Jewish history, I will tend to believe the story over someone who wants to attack it in the year 2004.
I think you seen to have some hidden agenda against this film? Do you?If I am not mistaken you mentioned that your family is christian but I take it that you are not? I would like to know why you really hate this movie so much? I bet you wouldnt protest a movie that should someone kicking dogs, killing babies, or raping women as much as your "protesting" this movie?? WHY?
