in this section we discuss the movie and what surrounds it, that's my opinion and not everyone has the same opinion, try and respect it
Omegaman, is it really that hard to believe that people just don't like the movie because it's bad and redundant. Just because it's a movie about JC doens't mean it's good. In fact, it used that as a crutch. It was like "ok, this is jesus christ, tehrefor if you are a good person you have to care about this movie and think it's good, or else you are a heathen and ignorant people will dislike you for it". If it was just about "some guy" being nailed to teh cross no one would have given a crap about the movie. But oh, it's our supposed lord and savior, so now it's captivating to all those who blindly follow everything having to do with Jesus.
Also, I applaud whoever it was who made that 3rd grade like statement of "oh, you like these types of movies, therefor you can't have an opinion because I'm judging your intelegence off those movies you like. Not because I've seen the movies, but because I'm following the dumbass cliche that suggests that all horror movies are bad. Now I don't actually know this, but I've heard it and since you didn't like the Christ movie it must be true". Thank you for making me look so much smarter then I already do. It's people like you who make me glad I'm not religious and so blind to criticism.
This might be the thread with the most frequently posted replies in Movie Discussion Forum history.
Also, to stay on topic, did anyone know it is believed to be the first movie in history to regain the top spot at the box office three weeks after it fell from it?
I just heard that on the news, I could be wrong.
Lil - What did I expect from this film? I expected nothing. I went in very very non-opinionate. I had no prejudgements of the film and was hoping it would keep me entertained. Although I guess I should have known that 45 minutes of meaningly violence and torture wasn't enough to keep anyone with a brain entertained or intrigued for more then about 4 minutes.
And no, the movie was not well made at all. It felt like a college film with a large budget and a hidden agenda of trying to guilt people into believing in Jesus.
Also, my point with that hook scene is that it wasn't necessary for the story. I doubt that it happened, but yeah sure "it's possible" I guess. The only point of that scene, whether it happened or not, was to get an easy reaction out of the audience.
Yes, the story already existed. It was bad then, and it's bad now on the big screen with all redundant glory.
First , I was not saying that because you like horror movies means that you cannot have an opinion about other type of movies! I do however believe that you were not being biased against the movie before even seeing it!
For you to say that the violence and blood in this movie was redundant and boring is what I take issue with! But a movie you claim is the all time great movie "TCM" is great entertainment and has "necessarry violence and gore is what is funny and sad at the same time!
To me "redundant" means not needed or untruthful, unecessarry, etc. When you are talking about something that really happened and you show it as it happend then it CANNOT be redundand because you are NOT making it up, it ACTUALLY happened. Do you even understand that?? Then a movie like TCM which is a FICTIONAL story(i hope you know that) has all the violence it has in it, now that type of violence can be called redundant!!! Because it did not actually happen, it was made up by Toby Hooper, GET IT???
I never said it was the best movie of all time(although it may well do so in actual numbers!), but it WAS and IS a good , well made movie! It does get its point across...THAT Jesus suffered greatly!! It was beyond cruel and inhuman!! I dont care if you liked the violence or not, thats how it happened!! Do some research on scourging and crucifixtion so that you will know what you are commenting on!
I
Again I have to tell you that just because something may have actually happeend doens't make it good. Lots of "based on true story" movies are boring, cliche, and in this case, very redundant. It's silly to say that because something really happened it can't be a redundant movie. Of course it can. Redundant means that it's the same thing over and over. Which the passion was. It was in fact redundant. Jesus got tortured throughout the whole movie, and just because it happened in real life does not make it any better a film.
And don't tell me you weren't try to insinuate that my opinion on the movie isn't valid because I like horror movies, you were. You made it clear as day, sure you may not have said it, but your intentions were clear, no matter how stupid they were.
And much of the violence in the passion wasn't needed. It was mostly for shock value, as I said before. Once again, it was a 15 minute story stretched out into 2 hours. And the only way they could make it that long was making the torture scenes exceedingly long, and thus made them boring to most people who arent' already very into religion.
Also, you're comparison to TCM is follie. TCM has an exceedingly LITTLE amount of violence, and therefor wasn't redundant in teh way the passion is. Despite it being based on true events.
And yes I'm very aware that TCM isn't real, never claimed it was. Another thing it isn't, is redundant. It isn't the same thing happening over and over, it changes, and it doesn't focus on the same basic thing for 40 minutes like the passion does. That is what makes the passion boring and redundant to me. Whether it happened in real life or not, on screen, it is redundant, repetitive and boring because it is simply the same basic thing going on for 45 minutes.
