You are right.

What about the second instance though? I've only seen the scans, I didn't actually read the whole comic. Do you remember the one where SS uses a force field to keep Thor from his hammer? That again wasn't the first instance was it?

Do not recall ever seeing such an incident.

In #4 Silver Surfer (with Loki's power amp) tries to keep Thor away from the hammer with a force bolt and later a force field. Thor broke through the first, and with some more effort the second.

Some similar instances - when Thor fought Dr. Doom the first time, Doom encased the hammer in a force field after discovering that he could not lift it. Blake dug throught the ground under the field and retrieved it to turn back into Thor. Later still when Quasar fought Masterson Thor he encased the hammer in an energy bubble but Thor managed to break it. I think a few others have tried the same trick.

Yeah. I just can't recall Surfer ever doing that again?

I have vague memories of others doing that trick besides those guys, but no I can't remember Silver Surfer ever doing it again.

True, they are very close in power as stated, but again being close does not equal =. Thor has more divine strengths to fall back on aside from Mjolnir and his own physical attributes; the simple fact that's he's the offspring of both Odin and Gaea places him above BRB from birth. Thor has advantages that BRB does not, as does BRB have advantages over Thor.

I'm just of the opinion that you can't switch out "Thor" and replace it with "Beta Ray Bill" and get the exact same results. Close, sure, even incredibly close in same cases, but the exact same, no.

It does say in the opening narrative of Godhunter, issue 2, that BRB is "oath-brother and equal in power to the God of Thunder...Thor!"

Still, I would not substitute Thor for BRB so nonchalantly, either, because, like you said, when all else is stripped away, Thor is still a god, born and raised...though how much of a difference that actually would've made in the Godhunter clash...would've been...interesting.

It doesn't matter jack shit what it says in any of the narratives wherever. Thor beats the shit out of BRB and their feats do not measure up. End of discussion.

surfer FTW.

Surfer 6/10.

Good call.

But I'm on Thor 6/10 myself 🙂

5/5 either, depending on circumstance.

Thor, just 'cause I am a fan.

The question is do you believe he wins or do you want him to?

In the light of recent events I would like to say that I still think Thor wins this battle.

I gotta go with Silver Surfer, obviously close call tho

Thor 6/10

I dont know who to give it too. Going by recent showings and statements Surfer just seems more powerful than Thor now. What I USE to think of Thor, I would give him the majority against any high herald but going by what writers say of him, I'm giving Surfer the high majority.

what do the writers say about him?

One thing they said is that he is equal to ares physically. Another thing that they stated was that Thor PROBABLY could destroy a planet but it would take a LOOOONG time. Then someone asked if Thor could catch a bullet with his teeth and it was stated that he couldnt.

I'm losing faith in my favorite character.

lol....

ok being physically equal to Ares is contradicted by strength feats through his history no mater ONE writer might thing...

Being able to destroy a planet with his hammer in time makes sence, since a single hammer toss (or even some of them) is not enough to destroy a planet. does that make him weaker? could superman destroy a planet with one or two punches? could gladiator now? we are not in the 70s...
as for the bullet catching teeth thing I don't think it takes anything from the character's powerset
