But again, there is defense because of a volunteer army, which is how it is now. There is no need for anymore people to go over there, especially if they aren't passionate about it, and even moreso if they don't want to be there in the first place.
Keep in mind that I'm talking about America's army, I have no idea how it is in Norway, maybe people don't volunteer there, and a draft is necessary, but here in America, it certainly is not. There are more then enough people who volunteer for the military as it is. The draft would just be overkill (No pun intended)
Linkalicious> You can’t stop terrorist by blowing up a country. Nor stop drugs by blowing up the drug dealers. There will be ten more standing in line to replace them. It’s the wrong strategy, don’t you see that. Educate people, relieve poverty and famine in 3rd world countries and remove the reasons behind drug-use and terrorism. THAT would make ME feel better. I don’t know about you.
Darth> Uh! There’s no free education in the US??? Without joining the military?
And about the Great Depression. A lot of factors contributed to that. The 1929 stock market crash which marked the beginning of the Great Depression ushered in a period of immiseration for virtually the entire working class. By 1932 it was estimated that 75 percent of the population was living in poverty, and fully one-third was unemployed. And in many places, Black unemployment rates were two, three, or even four times those of white workers.
Agent Elrond> But the Iraqi army being defeated didn’t really equal winning the war in Iraq now, did it? And if you’re saying Bush and co. didn’t have any spies in Iraq, how on Earth could anyone claim with 100 % certainty that there were weapons of mass destruction – what was claimed as THE no. 1 reason to go to war in the first place???
And Finti is right. Europe has been the scene of terrorism for decades. Rote Armee Fraction in Germany, the IRA in Ireland, the ETA in Spain to mention a few.
