hey when is this movie comin any ways
MGM chairman-CEO Harry Sloan is moving the studio aggressively into the tentpole business with two or three big-budget releases a year reports Variety.
Over the next few years, MGM is planning to release half a dozen films, some in the $150 million to $200 million-plus range. Studio is ready to unveil such high-profile projects as "Terminator 4"; one or two installments of "The Hobbit," which Sloan hopes will be directed by Peter Jackson; and a sequel to "The Thomas Crown Affair" with Pierce Brosnan.
The studio has already announced a "Pink Panther" sequel and the next 007 pic "Bond 22," due out in November 2008. "Rocky Balboa" unspools in February.
Well, we know that T4 would be a big budget production, so this isn't really news-news, but news to say the least.
Well I hope your right. A three to four year wait is normal for a sequel and I just hope that in that time they have a good enough script that will please more fans and regain those who lost interested last time round. I think that T4 is no doubt a hard task to write. What with linking the previous three films and filling in plot holes (mainly in T3). Anyway let's just sit back and let the waiting continue. lol.
Others may see it differently, but I'm sure most of us can agree this is certainly good news for T4.
Jonathan Mostow has signed to write & direct the Sub-Mariner meaning his reign of terror has ended over the Terminator franchise and just begun with Namor.

Universal Pictures long-in-development comicbook adaptation "Sub-Mariner" has found new life with Jonathan Mostow. Helmer has boarded the Marvel Studios pic to rewrite and direct.
Mostow has cleared his sked to make "Sub-Mariner" his next pic. The property -- created by cartoonist Bill Everett in April 1939, making the superhero character one of the oldest -- centers on a young man who discovers he's actually a descendant from the long-lost kingdom of Atlantis. He turns out to be the key man in a brewing war between the underwater world and our own.
Kevin Misher is producing through his Misher Films along with Marvel Studios. U's Peter Cramer is overseeing for the studio, Kevin Feige for Marvel. David Self wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay.
Along with the Human Torch and Captain America, Sub-Mariner was part of the "big three" Timely Comics characters. He was also part of Marvel's first attempt at television animation in 1966.
Project previously looked like it would go with Chris Columbus at the helm and his 1492 Prods. producing. His involvement was announced in late 2004 but that package fell apart.
Mostow's past credits include "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," "U-571" and "Breakdown."

So will this mean no Mostow for T4 or not? If so, who are they going to get for a replacement? I'm a little worried now, because I hope they don't hire someone of less skills than Mostow.
Considering both T4 & Namor would be produced roughly at the same time (with possible Namor sequels afterwards), it seems to seal the fact Mostow is officially gone. Although the damage has been done...sadly. Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium) was attached to direct last year but after Ultraviolet everyone disassociated the project from him with good reason. Arnie's run for governor (again) is coming up in two months, let's see what happens on that front as well.
In the meantime since we're throwing around names for potential directors, I'm going to throw Darren Aronofsky's name out there too. I suppose there's no easy yes or no for him though, but it seemed like an interesting one to add. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004716/
No news, but since the thread allows us to speculate on T4 then here is a little something I ran across that sounds logical and plausible. I can't take full credit for the material but I did modify it by removing, adding, re-organizing, and editing it to a more sensible version.
Kate and John make it into Crystal Peak's undergroound bunker. Terminator does not. Kate and John find all the discs, books and tapes in the bunker and are self tought mathematics, basic military strategies, and things of that nature.
Schwarzenegger is not a Terminator 'yet'. He's 'Commander Cody', and he leads a team of survivors to find Connor/the Bunker, only to run into T1's, HK's and the easy to spot 500 series Terminators. By film's end, Cody is captured, along with a few other survivors who strongly resemble Kristina Loken and Robert Patrick.
Skynet finds audio tapes from Sarah Connor to her son John. They discover evidence of 'Kyle Reese', and correctly assumes he is John Connor's father.
They eventually find a young Reese, and target him. The Schwarzenegger model goes after Reese. This helps Reese later on when he is in 1984 at Tech Noir. He knows what the Terminator will generally look like, but had to wait until Terminator came close because the model sent to 1984 is a slighlty different in appearance than other T-800/850 models.
In futurewar, John Connor discovers Skynet has sent a Terminator back to terminate his mother before he was born. Meanwhile his best friend, Kyle Reese, has burned the memory of John's mother, Sarah, in his mind.
Near the end of T4 (if not the end itself) Reese is being briefed on his mission by John and is prepared along with the necessary equipment to be sent back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor from termination.
Of course, the above doesn't cover any of the battles undoubtably vital to the film or other subjects but it addresses some would-be plot points and story.

Terminator 4 co-writer Michael Ferris has given Entertainment Weekly a hint about what we can expect from the next installment. First, however, he addressed the questions on whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back.
"'Terminator 3' kind of closed the book on Schwarzenegger, as did his gubernatorial career," said Ferris, who wrote the fourth film with John Brancato.
Another missing element is producer Gale Anne Hurd, who worked on the first three films and is not involved, and "T3" director Jonathan Mostow has yet to sign on (he'll be busy adapting Marvel's Sub-Mariner for a while).
As far as plot points, Ferris offered this tease: "You will learn about Skynet and what that postapolyptic future is like."
This is good and bad news! No Arnold!?! What does this mean then? Will T4 work without the Arnold? I dunno, I've got mixed feelings about this. Although this doesn't sound like news we have been wanting to hear, I must admit I like the last bit Ferris said.
The latest on T4...
The Hollywood Reporter says MGM chief operating officer Rick Sands is packaging the fourth "Terminator" film -- it will be titled "Terminator blah blah, not Four," Sands joked -- with a new star likely to fill the Arnold Schwarzenegger role. "It's like the 'Batman' or 'Superman' franchise in that it lends itself to having different actors in the roles," he said.
Hmm, let's hope he was joking.
