No it shouldn't be closed. It's sparking some good discussions and as long as it doesn't resort to all out personal attacks it should be left open.

If they disagree with me, more fool them (especially having been one once myself...). I do not think any reasonable gay couple will fail to tell the difference between low level and higher level discrimination.

Like I say, you cannot expect things to happen all at once. Slow steps- that is how it has always worked. Immediately going straight to gay marriage in a heavily conservative Christian country like the States will do the movement more harm than good.

As someone else stated here, whether a gay couple choose to marry or not should be down to the individuals involved, not dictated by the society in which they live. It makes Bush appear to be overtly hostile to the gay community, which is never a good thing thing from a country's leader...

I am sorry, but serious discussion or no do I really have to sit here and listen to someone saying that they want to 'take out' homosexuality? I find that extremely offensive.

Well, I find it hard to disbelieve. As Link said earlier, it is a basic piece of psychology that environment has a drastic effect on all aspects of a person's personality.
