The cartoon your talking about was a Xmen mini series called the dark phoenix saga, not that that demeans anything since it is approved by marvel but anyway,
it is a derivitive of the comic book series.

besides what are you so surprised about, Gladiator lifted the FF Baxter Building, a(35 floor skyscrapper), and took the Human Torches full nova blast, didn't just take it, laughed from the center of the fire and absorbed an explosion that would have annihilated half the solar system, whats wrong with you!
