Final Fantasy XII

I definitely don't think it's the best in the series, not even close. The characters and storytelling just wasn't quite up to snuff.

well just to let you know the japanese famitsu magazine declared ffxii the best of the series and alot of people on ign agreed it over took ff7.

Famitsu gave ffxii perfect score of 40/40..

But what i do not like is the battle system, no romance and they do not focus on vaan much, mostly on ashe and the resistance

And not to forget that i really do not like the sceneries that much, too desert like and personally i say that ffx has the greatest and best areas in the series. Though im abit bias to ffx but ffx and ffxii are among my favourite. FFXI has alot of flaws and is the most underrated ff i have seen so far,

Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII both look promising, the fighting is like what you saw in advent children

I like the fact that there's no romance and that it focuses on Ashe more than Vaan - everything I'd always heard about the game up until it's release had Ashe as the main character, anyway, and the plot IS about Dalmasca and the Resistance, so why shouldn't it focus on her?

I guess b/c Vaan was being force fed to us as the main character early on that people are put off b/c he's actually not, at least not in the portion I've played.

Yes, Vaan is plainly presented as the main character throughout most of the game. He should have more to do with the goings on of the story, as it is, he's just "along for the ride", which is admittedly weak.

Really, Balthier should be the main character, he's the only one that's remotely interesting or developed beyond a one dimensional character.

The plot itself is grand, but the storytelling is weak and sloppy, as is the character interaction and development.

its not what i said, its what famitsu in japan stated. personally i prefer X

and yes i do agree that ashe seems more like the main character. But why bother to tag vaan along when all he does is beep like r2d2 and his parter c3po(penello) rambles along? Noticed that there are similarities to star wars, vayne(palpatine) and gabranth (vader) while balthier is very han solo and you all know who princess ashe is... its obvious, notice that vaan has alot of silver red blue? There he goes, r2d2

Though 12 does not focus much on the characters history and background unlike the others like vii and X

But i wonder can FFXIII be the next best one? What do you guys think

the story is pretty much focus on the political issues in ivalice, not around the characters, and i have to say i like that alot. Because is a political history (set in a fantasy world) it takes longer to kick in and develope. Is about the whole Ivalice, and the effects politics has on all the people, not just your party, and how a few people can make a difference.

I don't know if it could top FF7, but it ranks high on my favourite list. It's and intricated plot, and I think everyone can compare it to Star Wars, not just quite, but it resembles it a lot

about post above: Fran and Balthier = Han and Chewie
Bhujerba = Cloud City
yensa sand people = tusken raider
Resistance = Rebels
I know Wedge and Biggs (regular characters in all FF)are like and homage to Star Wars, but this one could almost be a copy of SW 😄

On another board I went on, someone went through and picked out matches for all the main FFXII characters from SW. It was quite amusing.

Rabanatre is almost exactly like Theed, for that matter.

well archades sounds like imperiel center on coruscant. And gabranth is very darth vader while balthier is han solo,
O and the millinieum falcon is like the strahl. Gamespot did mention that its the japanese version of star wars.

i kind of agree, star wars is like the western version of fantasy while final fantasy is the japanese type of fantasy

Lol lets not forget the "star destroyers" we see in FFXII and not to forget the "death star". And the name for leviathen also came from another star wars game. Darth malaks flag ship the "leviathen". i guess ghiss is another similarity to malak. brutal and brainless

Actually, no. Leviathan came from the FF summon of the same name, not from SW.

Most of the airships in FFXII (the Ifrit, the Shiva, the Leviathan) were named after summons.

Does anyone else find Frans 3rd Mist attack similar to Shiva's special attack?

Where are you at in the game Lana?

i know that, im just saying the similarities to the one in kotor

I'm in the Ozmone Plain right now. I haven't been playing too much, and need to do some more leveling. Damn birds ermm

Though I did give Vaan some licenses for bows and if I run into a Zu, I usually swap his weapons with Fran's, since Fran and Balthier are currently about 4-5 levels below everyone else.

Did any1 get the masamune yet? i heard it can be the strongest weapon if you have the genji item

SPOILER alert look below

gilgamesh wields clouds buster sword, tidus brother hood, gunblade odins sword and many more

Yes. Those birds are treacherous.

I was fighting them when I'd run into them, now I just avoid them b/c it's just too much trouble.

Yes, it's obviously an homage to it. It's the same attack.

I kinda wish they hadn't made all new summons for this game, I miss the old ones.

Yeah. The Water Summon leaves much to be desired in my opinion.

What level were you guys when you fought the Elder Wyrm boss inside the Golmore Jungle?

Because it just kind of killed me...stupid status effects.

I have managed to buy two of the grimoires so far, though. I keep getting loads of pebbles as drops, though ermm

I think I was in my early 30's.

I remember him being a pain, just set up a gambit with esuna and you should prevail.

I'm not too sure but I had to be somewhere in the mid to late 20's.

That worm was a pain. Killed me more times than I care to count.

I just had to stop the first night and try again the next day b/c it just wasn't working for me.

I had to keep leveling up in the words a few times and keep going back after my levels had increased some until I beat it.

How many times have you been killed?
