Huh?..... What? you atheists have been nice so far? That strikes me as shocking! All this time I thought you guys were unleashing it in these religious threads. But if you folks feel like trashing other peoples beliefs, I really don't mind. If it makes feel you better.....just do it. Meh, as long as the topic involves philosophical ideas....I'm in. I hate been a basher all the time.
Morningstar>True different beliefs and different ways of thinking. That's what makes conversations interesting. This would be one dull world if we all think the same.
Yeah I understand, but are you basing your thoughts on the negative side of religion or as in religion as whole? Because I have my own "true" thoughts on religion, but because I also recognize the good things some religious people do to help others. I really don't expressed those feelings. For me it balances it out. So religion is pretty balance in my scale neither side is tilted.
What I like about my Religion… I like the holidays. The law system that England that is based on it, is nice too; I have several female friends, and it wouldn’t be better for me if we lived in an African culture where feminine circumcision is considered divine. They wouldn’t be so vibrant. I like the immense range of literature that has arisen due to Christianity. One of my favourite philosophy books is Mere Christianity, and the series by Dan Brown about the religious symbolist is very good. I like the free food after church, and the chance to chat with my friends. Some of the freedom the religion has given me is nice, as before I tried to preen a bit (vanity), but now I just have fun… It’s a good life.

BF> 100 % behind you here.
Some people need to stop wearing their feelings and nerves on the OUTSIDE!
Come on - It is blatantly more cruel to tell people they'll suffer eternally if they don't do as one forumite says, than another forumite telling the former to learn how to spell.
I voted for fiction. The Bible is a cool story like tales are. I love the Xmas story of Jesus Christ born in the stable. It is such a cute story.
I think the bible is an explanation of things poeple didnt understand to the time it was written and an explanation for the meaning of life. But i believe some storys are base on the truth. For example there was a noah and it was raining hard many people died but he, his family and his animals were at a ship.

I kind of agree. The Bible is IMO more fiction than fact, but I do believe that theories are based on fact. It's more a case of Chinese Whispers. Everything works in theory 😬
