S_D_J, I like it. It is very possible that Esau, or whatever his name is, is in fact the smoke monster. It DOES make sense, the way you explained it. That guy may in well be a master manipulator, using people's memories and feelings against them to progress his plan. Think about this(this just came to me): If Jacob is supposed to be God and Esau Satan, that would explain why Smokey killed Mr. Eko, a priest.

you know whatremember when locke saw the smoke monster? in the first or second season, i cant recall... They never showed it but he saw it
what if the smoke monster possessed him, he was a bit weird when he came back
Like the whole thing started back then, at that point? Hmmm, I think I will go back and watch my DVD's from the beginning from this point of view and see how it works.
Dude, I love this show! 😱 😱

He couldn't kill Jacob himself. He had to have someone have blind faith in him enough do wahtever he wanted. That's why he made a point of dying and resurrecting. That, and the fact that his dead daughter told him so, made Ben become Locke's servant. That was the loophole.
I get the loophole.
What I'm saying is, Locke wasn't possesed yet. Not a chance.
pretty sure he wasn't possessed back then.... because he has never been possessed... his dead body is there, dead.
The Locke we saw is an illusion (albeit a tangible one), a doppelganger...
He being confronted by the monster, and coming out of it alive, what's just to show he was special... or make him believe so...

Yeah, I get that then. Good point.
I have to refer back to Mr. Eko though. He had a face-to-face with him too, the same way he had one with Locke.... so why did it kill him and not Locke? What was the difference there?
