Not only is Richard not a time traveller, he didn't even know time travel was possible in 1954 when Locke visited him.

Dude's 200 years old........40+ years old, crashed on the island in the black rock 160 years ago.....

he's also been described by characters on the show (Juliet I recall offhand) as being very old and being on the island a long, long time.

There are women listed as possible candidates. You can see Charlotte's name. Also Shannon's is there too. If there was a rule of "no women candidates" then there wouldn't even be a question whether or not it was Sun or Jin that was the aforementioned "Kwon."

And Richard doesn't age mother****er.

If there were a rule of no women candidates, do you think someone like Ilana would know that? No! Your point is moot. I was just going by the final 6 candidates anyways.

On a side note, was Dr. Arzt a candidate? If so, would his blowing up count as him killing himself since he was the one messing with the dynamite?

But they didn't shout it. It is still a possibility, same with Jacob BTW: does he age or time travel? The latter wouldn't need him to not age.

And it would have been different if Richard would have said that he had been waiting for 400 years or so for Jacob's words to come true. But he said: all his life... That certainly allows for a loop hole. Maybe Jacob and Smokey went out to collect him.

1. As mentioned before, Richard would have understood the Losties when they were traveling through time.

2. Referred to, multiple times, as really old.

3. 400 years? Where do you get that? The Black Rock is a 19th Century ship.

It isn't... it seems... though I think I heard her name in the cave was crossed out 😐

Re-watched last weeks episode and it was mentioned that there are only 6 candidates left (4 8 15 16 23 42) and since we know all those numbers are not Kate's, I believe it's safe to assume her name is crossed out.

Here's how I see it:

Judging by the names on the cave and lighthouse dial, everybody (at least the main characters) are candidates. However, 4-8-15-16-23-42 are the favoured candidates -- and thus, cannot die by their own hand.

Is this correct?

I still say the reason they can't die is due to some kind of paradox prevention/course correction.. I dont think its a question of "oh that guy csannot die: Hes immortal." I think its a more a case of "You cant die 'til you've done this as you were always meant to."

"You can go now, Michael." - Daddy Sheppard, to Michael after Michael had just saved the O6 from getting blown up on the freighter.

Dynamite killed him. He didn't really know. Does that count?

By the way, Hurley's first question to richard in last weeks episode was "Are you a time traveler?" and richard said no. Next question was is he a cyborg.

Okay fair enough. But let's face it... we don't know all that much.

And where did it come from that the Black Rock is a 19th Century ship?

From the creators of the show. And on the Enhanced version of this season's episodes. I was watching the latest enhanced and it said "This is the Black Rock, it is a 19th century British slave ship..."

We aren't trying to derail you queeq 😛

Too late...

not all names were crossed out

108 - Wallace

being one of them... but those names came from the lighthouse

the names on the cave though, those all seem to be crossed out, except the 6 candidates... hence what is said about Kate being crossed out in the cave.

So...

nobody saw last night episode?

I've seen so far the first 5 minutes....

Sawyer as Det. LeFluer in the sideway world... 😄

Detective LaFleur??? Really... wow...

The lighthouse wasn't up to date, the cave is where Jacob seemed to spend most of his time. He crossed out the appropriate names and it is fact that there are only 6 candidate names left.

I watched last nights episode, wasn't too great. Good, but nothing spectacular.

Sawyer is NOT Detective LeFleur. He is Detective James Ford. LaFleur was just the code word he used to signal the cops to bust the chick pointing a gun at him.

yep... it was just the code "LaFleur", but still it was a connection, and he is Detective James Ford and Miles works with him... chief 😄

still haven't seen the episode though...

There were a lot of people that showed up in this flash sideways.

Looks like the actor who plays Jacob is going to be playing the role of Satan in supernatural. Haha

Also, I just looked up Esau and Jacob on wikipedia (I'm sure some of you have already done that) but it was pretty damn interesting.

But the link Jacob and Esau wouldn't work. Other people suggested it, but I don't buy it. A Kain and Abel link would be more along the lines of what we know now... but the names...

Yeah its not gonna have any one Religious answer.

Smokey kept using religious metaphors and symbolism on the island to manipulate people as has Jacob.

My money is that Jacob is just period name of the time before he came to the island.

But equally true is that Locke, Hume, etc were all named after the guys who comtemplated determinism vs free will.... and that other characters have been named with certain allegories in mind.

But like I say, I dont think this'll be a "God did it" show.

Agreed. Just pointing out that they adopted a lot of the christian belief into their show.
