Original Trilogy DVD- Discussion thread

The whole musical number was one of those George Lucas "It didn't turn out the way I originly invisioned" kind of things. So it just like the han/jabba in ANH thing, its here to stay

yes I know, that's what makes it so tragic.

I don't get the new sarlacc. before it was like there's this mouth out in the desert. All right, its a sort of venus fly trap kinda thing. But when they re-did it, it had that beak thing coming out of it... so is that like, his tongue or something? Is it like the second jaw in alien? It looks like there were two creatures in one there. very weird.
I thought it was funny, in Empire of Dreams when Lucas said he considered showing Boba blast out of the thing with his jet pack but figured it wasn't important since he was such a minor character. He said he would have done it if he'd known how popular Fett would become. So how 'bout it George? Cgi it and make it so!!!! ...just wishful thinking form a Fett fan. He won't do that. But it would sitll be cool.

I don't mind anymore. I thought the orignal song was better, because it was kinda funky, now it is the way it is. Positive note, Boba Fett got more screen time and put the mack on and was like:

"You got any clone in ya?" , "want some"

Too bad he ended up bieng digested over a thousand years.

OMG!! I was just going to type the same thing as Mephisto about the Sarlaac.!! That looks totally stupid......I thought it was more mysterious to not even SEE it, to just have it down in that hole lined with teeth. I am 1/3 of the way through ROTJ and besides that I have 2 Q's. What the F is that band at Jabba's palace all about? What crap. AND When Han was going to shoot the sarlaac so Lando could get free the original line after Lando says "No, wait I thought you couldnt see?" was "It's alright trust me" and they changed it to "It's alright I can see alot better now"???? oh give me a break.

I knew she hadn't seen the SE's, but what suprises me is that she didn't know about a lot of this stuff, at least that what it sounds like.

Major shock seeing them with two revisions...

...but I agree with Ush, personally. They're his films, and although there are some tiny changes, they are still "A New Hope" "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi." The Emperor hasn't grown fangs and made Luke a vampire, Darth Vader hasn't got jiggy with Boba Fett, the storyline is there that was there twenty years ago, with improvements or degrades, depending on your views, in a scene or two, and redone special effects.

No this will never happen. I will always love Star Wars. I had heard about some of the changes Ob1 but I think I was hanging in denial ya know? PVS had been going on about the Jabba's palace thing warning me but I really never believed it would be THAT bad. 😂 I honestly had no idea about the sarlaac pit venus flytrap getting added in and Han's line getting changed there. I just finished it and the rest of the movie was good. Besides that Ive figured out a way to get the theatrical versions on DVD so its all good. 😉

ps good to see ya OB its not nearly enough pal. 😉

How so? It won't be in 5.1, but I'm still interested 🙂

I could tell ya JK but then Id have to kill ya. 😂 actually I am sworn to secrecy unfortunately. 🙁 and what is 5.1?

5.1 Dolby Digital Surround EX, the thing that makes the X wings whoosh behind you on surround systems 😉

5.1 Dolby Digital EX is actually 6.1. The EX is a 3rd channel that pipes through the rear speakers. I have already customized my home theatre from 2 rear speakers to 4, making it a 7 speaker system in total, and nothing beats it. It's 300 Watts, and I am looking to upgrade.

The EX makes a huge difference in clarity.

I was just saying what was on the box 😛

But yeah, I have a 5.1 Sony system, 575 watts, and for right now, I'm extremely happy with the system I have. 😊

Later on, I'll get a new decoder so I can get 6.1+, but right now, I just got mine about a month ago, and it's awesome.

There are DVD's of the original theatrical versions that include a 5.1 soundtrack. The whole thing is ripped from the last laserdisc issue that came out just before the 97 special edition. I've not seen them myself but if they look as good as the LD's then they'll be well worth it.

I think there was a widescreen scaling issue with those 5 Star Malaysian imports though. I'd love to get them, at a decent price. Granted, they won't have the absolute same clarity as these new releases.

I actually liked the bits that were SUPPOSED to be in there, but got cut out.

The band scene, the Jabba scene and so on were originally INTENDED to be in the movies, and the story accomodates for the scenes and they integrate into the movies really well because they were originally part of the idea.

I have a problem however, when they start changing things that WERE NOT supposed to be any different. Greedo shooting first, for instance, is a change that was made in hindsight, after the scene was shot, editted and released - many years after. That kind of change is uncalled for.

Changing the ACTUAL LINES of the movies? Has GL actually gone mad? Doesn't he realise there are people out there who know every movies line of by heart, and that every line is sacred to them? It's probably the one franchise where you should never attempt to change the lines.

I didn't think that LaserDisc had 5.1 tracks... that's impossible to rip 5.1 from a source of 2 channels 😕

side winder--he didn't go about changing lines, if you listen to the ANH commentary, Ben Burtt talks about how there were three audio mixes released to different theatres based on what systems they had. There were 3 basic formats and each one had tiny changes to sound. Also, when the SE's were done, some scenes were replaced with alternate takes or from alternate mixes because they had much better picture quality. Only a couple lines were changed and it wasn't for any reason other than these versions having better picture quality. Other then that, the only concious change he did was the addition to the Emperor scene in ESB and that line will make more sense when all six are finished so that was a good change.
The only lines I've noticed changing (and can remember at the moment) are
1. "You're lucky to have gotten outta there" from "You're lucky you don't taste very good" -Luke in ESB after R2 is spat from the swamp monster.
2. Vader's "bring my shuttle" to "Alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival" (which was from an alternate line from ANH).
3. Han's "It's okay, I can see a lot better now" from "It's okay trust me."

Other than that, its all the same.
The various mixes were also responsible for the .45 sound effect during Leia's shooting in the death star chasm in the SE. Which was fixed for the DVD's.
