Article by Beth ShapiroNew York, NY The brains of gay men respond more like women's when they react to a male sex hormone according to a new study.
The study was conducted by researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
It shows that there are basic differences in physiological reaction to sex hormones.
The team, led by Dr. Ivanka Savic, exposed heterosexual men and women and gay men to chemicals derived from testosterone. These chemicals are thought to be pheromones, molecules known to trigger responses such as defense and sex in many animals.
When they sniffed the testosterone chemical, portions of the brains involved in sexual activity were activated in gay men and straight women, but not in straight men, the researchers found. But, when they sniffed smells like cedar or lavender, all of the subjects brains reacted only in the olfactory regions that handles smells.
"The result clearly shows a biological involvement in sexual orientation," Sandra Witelson, an expert on brain anatomy and sexual orientation at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, told the Associated Press.
Savic's findings are published in this week's issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
i.m.v i believe a person who's gay is born like that. i mean you cant just wake up the next morning and change your sexuality. personaly i think when a man or woman decides to like the same sex (( shudders)) i think they would act a diffrent way. like usually straight men (me) always played with gi joes and w/e. homosexuals usually play with dolls or other girl toys. so if anything i would say its not either of these options but a chromozone issue.

He was gay himself but he was determaned not to be labeled as anything. He said that 'sexuality' is constructed in society and that such thing does not exist. Hes not actually very good at explaning where the discorses came from, not just with sexuality but in everything else he spoke of.
I think you should read about what he wrote - i cant really put his life work in one post. There is however, early and late Faucault - his ideas changed and shifted over time. I like his ideas on homosexuality because he himself was gay and lived in enviroment where he was constantly reminded that he is abnormal. Thats why more of his work contrencate on sexuality rather than gender (although there is a lot of gender work too)
