Do you mean what individual rights the US government grants homosexuals to adopt children?
Yes, and what individual rights do you believe they have as human beings...regardless of what governments say...
For example no matter what the government says, homosexuals have the right to live and be protected from harm...

As for the US, I am not sure what individual rights they grant specifically, I think that allowing gays to adopt would come down to them though. I guess, since they also allow single straight people to adopt, they'd have to accept gays on some sorts of minority acts they have. Being the government and all. If it was private organisations they could, imo, be prejudiced all they want of course.

Do people have the right to adopt though? Is having a child the same as, say the right to own a gun or whatever? Surely the only person who has rights in this matter is the child...
I'd say homosexuals still have the right not to be discriminated against by the government.
And that depends how you define it yourself. You could say that a child has no rights and just the people adopting it do. But I would go with yours that it is the right of the child.
Well, I personally don't believe that people have the right to have children. Which was a common argument here when the Gay Adoption Bill was being produced. However, I do believe that if a homosexual person can give the child a good home then they should be treated just the same as a straight couple and not discriminated against because they are a same sex couple... in saying that having two male/female parents might be detrimental to the child...what with bullying etc.

Types? Anyway... I really kinda don't see how this thread has lasted so long on such a flawed premise. In case it hasn't been pointed out for like the hundredth time it's a false dichotomy; sexuality is neither chosen nor purely genetic - the latter ignores the importance of environment* and the former ignores basically everything mentioned below as well as genetic basis and is generally unsubstantiated to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure kids don't go "When I grow up I wanna be a race car driver, oh and also gay."
*NB by environment I don't necessarily mean upbringing (although nor am I necessarily saying that upbringing conclusively plays no role) but rather physiological environment i.e. epigenetic determinants of phenotype such as prenatal endocrinology and neurodevelopment, or even nutrigenomics likely play a role - as well as all the psychology (which is interesting but frankly way too wishy washy for me, but I'm a bastard materialist).

What makes it weird? I don't think that it's weird at all, I think it's just as normal as having five children; four straight, one gay.

Well its not normal is it, normally it would be five kids and one gay...never mind four! So its unusual...that doesn't imply theres anything wrong with it...its like having a five kids four ginger one blacked haired is weird too...
It's "different", for sure, but just because it's different or not very common, that doesn't make it weird.

Uncommon = weird, strange, abnormal, different, unique, queer, there are lots of words you could use, good bad and indifferent....the case you give is certainly weird.

It is abnormal, that's why i posted it. What are the odds of four out of five brothers being gay if its not genetic. Yes this is only one family, but occurrences like this are evidence for it being genetic.
