Smoking should it be ban?

I don't smoke so, i could careless if they raise taxes on smoking. Smoking does absolutely nothing for YOU, exept make you addicted. And the purpose in that would be, so you will BUY more cigs!!! Alot of smokers will be polite and not smoke in your house or cars, I have had to tell some please don't smoke in my house or pick-up, I can walk in a room and smell if someone was been smoking or not and I can't stand for me house to smell like that. I've had to ask my husbands dad and my dad plzz don't smoke in my house, and they both know WE don't smoke. My dad has quit, and now he says he can't believe how people stink from the smell of cigs, and he can't stand it now... lol how things change when you quit. Anyway....smoking not only hurts the person that is smoking but it also hurts the people around you smoking, it's right on the package that it causes cancer. So, people that smoke, are not only hurting theirself, they are hurting those around them. I think they shld ban smoking altogether, but I also have to agree w/the person that was talking about why not ban alcohol. People that smoke don't reck, run off the road because they are smoking, YET people that drink and drive do. The fact is: they both can kill you and someone you love.

and what? are you going to ban coke next because the sugar contents too high or driving because its too dangerous? can people not see that we are living in a world of cants? You cant smoke weed, you cant commit suicide (stupidest law ever made if u ask me cos u cant exactly punnish someone afterwards). The more we cant do, the more the government controls our lives. Its ridiculous, what ever happened to an increase in the number of human rights?

people can run of the road without being under the influence by anything too. So we ban alchohol , ban smoking, ban cars. Lets ban junk food and anything else that might cause someone dying. We must ban all weapons . Lets get ourself such a sterile environment that the tinest cold will kill you. Why dont we ban giving birth too cause being born will eventually end with you dying.

I cannot begin to tell you all how much this aggrevates me. Please, everyone, stop trying to limit the ways I can hurt myself if I choose to do so! The govt can't even control our most basic needs like education and the like and you think they are the answer to smoking? Gimme a break. This ain't the 60's - I'm an adult, I KNOW smoking is bad, and choose to do it anyway........my friggin right! I do try not to smoke in places where I think it will be offensive to someone, I understand if it is a public place & they do not want to be exposed to it. No problem...I'll go elsewhere. BUt if your argument is that it is bad for you & you hate 'smoker's breath' i got 2 suggestions: 1 - DONT DATE A SMOKER, you don't want him to smoke so you want the govt to handle it? I hate the smell of coffee breath the way most hate cigs....should coffe drinking be banned, Lord knows its addictive & bad for your health. Grow up & fight your own battles, will ya.... 2- The health issue, this one cracks me up. As we all agree smokers are more at risk for respiratory issues, correct? So what is society's solution? Make us go outside ( cause you know we're gonna smoke no matter what)....outside when its freezing, raining, et all..... What does that do? Put us a larger risk for pnuemonia, bronchitis, etc.... which does what? Increases health care costs! Get a grip America, if I wanna die a slow death at my own hands, it's my right & would appreciate you not tramping on the number of ways I can hurt myself (they're the most fun anyway, life is short, enjoy it)

what so stupid about that if you smoke you have ot pay to get the cigies, tax them to hell and back for what I care
so why alcohol, people run red lights without being influenced by alcohol so should we ban cars too then

That's a pretty good point. Just yesterday we heard that during the festive season here if you're caught driving drunk they're going to seize your car. So you drive drunk, you pay with your car. Dunno what happens after that. I missed that part.

Check out the Freudian slip on the top of this page by the adverts under "stop youth smoking": Learn the TREAT about smoking. Hmmm...anti-smoking campaigns can't be that serious if their ads look like that.

while i do agree with the majority of you r point, i do disagree with some parts of it. i agree with number 2, but not number 1, why? sometimes we cannot get away from smokers. i got lung cancer from my mothers passive smoke (btw she doesnt know because thats a can of worms i dont wanna open, and im 100% now anyway), can i tell her to stop smoking? no. can i go to a different room? sure, if i want to spend every minute of every day in my bedroom.

to be honest i have no problem with most smokers, its just that smokers rights usually infringe on non smokers rights. up until the smoking ban in ireland came into effect a year or so ago, you could ot go to a bar in dublin without it being full of smokers, this was every bar or club i've been in. if u wanna smoke, thats fine, but if i dont wanna be around smokers why should i have to suffer?

As for smoking sections, yes its a great idea, but nobody seems to want to use it.

We shouldn't ban smoking ofc not, ppl who smoke just have to respect the rights of those who do not smoke, meaning, they should not smoke in any public building (including restaurants and bars)

restaurants and bars are most of the time private establishments and thus not public buildings

restaurants and bars are most of the time private enterprises and thus not public buildings

true, but they are mostly populated by the public.

still they aint open for all, like in Norway you have to be 18 to enter a bar. So here it should be up to the owners if they want a smoke free place.

aah no In belgium you can enter almost every bar at whatever age.

and I wouldn't give a damn wether they are private places or not, I would still enforce a smoking ban if it was up to me

yeah, and what happens to the non smokers?

to enter a pub bar is done on a voluntarily basis, if you dont like that they smoke in there stay the hell out

yeah, and what happens to the non smokers?
they can start a smoke free bar/pub

Smoking should not be the norm.

Someone who smokes willingly hurts someone who doesn't smoke, to me this falls under the idea: my freedom ends where your freedom starts.

Do I have the right to smoke yes, HOWEVER if you are around me and you do not smoke iI willingly and knowling hurt you, then I CAN'T smoke.

If you want to smoke get out on the street.

they can start a smoke free bar/pub

haha good one.
