Haha...spot on casting! Blessed is a favourite of Branagh's, going back to his debut on Henry V.

"Boss Nass" Brian Blessed? Hmmm, don't know much else about him.

He's known for Boss Nass type roles. He played Vultan in Flash Gordon (here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnTHypbLlkE). However he probably got the role since he's shown the ability to be subtle in other movies he's done with Branaugh, about a minute in to this clip he appears as Hamlet's father.

He's also played Robin Hood's father in Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, and the insane King in the early Blackadder comedy series. But yeah, I still think of him first for Vultan in Flash Gordon. He's like a British version of Orson Welles as an actor; it's why George Lucas wanted him to voice Boss Nass. He's got the vocal chops for Odin.
Which still leaves the question: if Branagh isn't playing Odin, then what role will he take? Surely not Fandral; he's looking too old for that part now.

Maybe he'll end up being Blake, unless they've already cast that role.

Maybe Branaugh will play Sif.

Marvel's Joe Quesada on Iron Man 2 & Thor
Source:Comic Book Resources
June 18, 2009

Comic Book Resources continues their "Cup 'O Joe" series of interviews with Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada with an edition dedicated to Quesada's involvement with the next two movies on Marvel Studios' slate, Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2 and Kenneth Branagh's Thor.

Quesada is grilled by Jonah Weiland and Kiel Phegley specifically about the meetings held by the Marvel Creative Committee to decide on the direction of the movies and how they'll tie into Marvel Comics' publishing schedule.

Below is a taster, and then you can read the full interview with Quesada over on Comic Book Resources:

We had one big creative meeting with the Marvel Creative Committee, which now works on all of our movies and I have the honor to be a part of. We sat with Kenneth and discussed the "Thor" movie and the overarching story of what that's going to be, just to give our input before anything was put down to paper by screenwriters.

And it was one of the highlights of my time here at Marvel because not only did Branagh sit there and give you the story beat for beat, he and [Marvel Studios head] Kevin Feige formed a great team. It was performance art. Kevin would give us the establishment of the shot and the situation: "Here we are. We're in (take your pick of location). And here's Odin and he’s coming up to (pick a character)." And then Kenneth would come in and give you the color commentary. "Odin has an air of majesty to him" and he'd act out the Odin part or the Thor part. So we sat there and literally got a three-hour one-man show from Kenneth Branagh. It was fantastic. People pay a lot of money for that kind of performance by one of the world’s greatest living actors.

Thats how to make comic movies, you dont have the studio call all of the shots(like the fck ups at Fox), have the comic company involved.

Maybe there will be new management at Fox soon, the way things are going. Paramount was stuck in a rut for years, until they changed at the top and turned things around - their new association with Marvel, Transformers, G.I. Joe, a revamped Star Trek and many other things have brought it back up.

I still question how u make a viking that saves the day not look rediculous in real life. I hope he has a beard...

Superman wears red underwear on the outside and saves the day. 😛

Thor won't look like a regular viking - he's a God, and his armour will have a perfect, glowing sheen to it.
I could go either way with the beard. Maybe he'll have the goatee sported by Ultimate Thor. Chris Hemsworth looks good enough without the beard.

I always wondered why supes an bats an others had underwear on the outside... its a DC thing lol

Batman doesn't look that bad, because it's one dark colour on another; black on grey, generally. And the movie costumes have never had it - he's just completely in black. (I wonder why they're never felt the freedom to alter Superman's uniform...)

Thats a good question about supes...

This movie just landed a great star.

Marvel Studios announced today that Academy Award® nominated actress Natalie Portman has been cast to star as Jane Foster in the studio's highly anticipated movie Thor. In the early "Thor" comics, Jane Foster was a nurse who became Thor's first love. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation. Portman will star opposite Chris Hemsworth who will play Thor and Tom Hiddleston who will play the villain Loki. Kenneth Branagh will direct the film.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce Thor. Principal photography for the film is set for early 2010. The film will be released in the US on May 20, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: Thor. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Portman will next be seen starring in Jim Sheridan's Brothers opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire. She recently wrapped production on Hesher, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and executive produced by her production company handsomecharlie films, and Don Roos' Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, which also she executive produced. In 2004, she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as an Academy Award nomination in the same category for Closer. She also earned critical acclaim for her role in Garden State and is most well known for her role as Queen Padme Amidala in the "Star Wars" trilogy. Other film credits include The Other Boleyn Girl, V For Vendetta, Cold Mountain, Anywhere But Here, Heat, Beautiful Girls, and The Professional.

Thor is one of a continuing slate of films being produced by Marvel Studios based on the Marvel characters, including Iron Man 2 on May 7, 2010, The First Avenger: Captain America on July 22, 2011, and The Avengers on May 4, 2012.

^^ Very nice. Natalie Portman is a good pick

Agreed. Portman is always a good choice.

Terrific casting of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. I first thought she would be cast as Sif, which made me think 😬
This is going to be an A-class effort from Marvel.
