It will just be funny to see Ray Stevenson with long red hair and beard. But, he's a big guy and likely will make it work.

Well, we do have a Japanese actor playing Hogun - who has a Mongolic appearance - and it's been established that his race comes from a far away part of Asgard that resembles Asians...so perhaps they are doing the same thing with Heimdall. But this would likely mean Sif wouldn't be his sister, now.
I'm not dismissing this casting move, but I'm not sure I agree with it.
He might be a great actor - I hope this wasn't done for some kind of political correctness, because they are no black characters in Thor.

The makers of LOTR resisted putting in any black characters in the various human races, because that's how it was.

Then again, we now have Black Amazons in Wonder Woman's home...

I'll keep an open mind.
