I'm reserving judgement on this, and hoping Branagh & company know what they are doing.
It wasn't a necessary move - but then, we have a Japanese actor playing Hogun, because it's been established he comes from a tribe in remote Asgard that resembles the Mongols. So...I guess they want to establish the Gods come in different shapes & shades in Asgard, and aren't just a purely Aryan mythology. So if there is a remote corner of Asgard where the Gods have a Negroid resemblance...
I suppose it will help market the movie.
I think it could have been fine the regular way. But then, I didn't think it was necessary to see Black Vulcans or Kryptonians; maybe they're just trying to get with the times.

Kenneth Branagh is a Shakespearean stage actor, I think he knows a bit more about casting actors and acting in general than anyone on this forum.
That's not to say the guy will be good, but if he's shit, it won't be because he's black.

See, you try and present it like getting a skilled white actor to play Heimdall isn't even an option. I never claimed that I preferred Pattison, who is way too young, instead. Acting doesn't matter because it really makes no difference how skilled the guy is. Heimdall isn't really a central figure so there's a limit to how big a difference his actor's skill makes. Even the non-speaking actors cast as Asgardians should be white. A black Heimdall ruins the preferred portrayal of Asgard, as it is in most comics/mythology.
Maybe we can have a black Superman or a black Wolverine for the next movies? maybe Black Pather could be played by a white guy..... Just like that black WW idea is total SHIT!

Are you this vehement about say, Heath Ledger playing the Joker? He's not American.
