people say it doesn't innovate...
and your point is?
even if we humor you and say it doesnt, what is the problem?
you make it sound like something NEEDS to be new in order to be good. Remember all those games that failed because they tried to do totally innovative things? oh thats right, i dont remember them ether, you know why? cause innovation is not what makes a game great.
halo 3 (or the halo series for that matter) took the basic ideas of fps, polished it and made them, stuck them in an amazing plot, and turned it into a game, a game which i am proud to say is kicking arse. I love when people say "it's no good!", what dictates 'good' ? is there some predefined list that you hold games aginst and check off features? id love to see it.
is it determined by sales? cause if it is, halo 3 has already trumped a lot of other games, and its only the first day.
is it determined by popularity? cause by what i see it is pretty damn popular lol, i went to eb games at 5 yesterday and as i was walking home i saw at least 20 people with the same small eb game bag in their hands as i did.
is it determined by your own oppinuion? well jee, looks like we cant change that, so let me put this as politly as i possibly can.
go **** yourself
Druff
People don't realize how long Bungie has been making First Person Shooters. Their first was Pathways Into Darkness, which came out a few months before Doom in 1993. Then they released Marathon in '94, Marathon 2 in '95, and Marathon Infinity in '96. Halo was their fifth FPS, not their first.
Bungie's innovations:
* Free look
In Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, you couldn't look up or down. If an enemy was above or below you, your bullets just magically went up or down as if by magic. Bungie implemented mouse-look in the first Marathon. It took until two years later, but naturally it became part of the FPS genre standard. Anytime you play and FPS where you can freely look around with the mouse or an analog stick, that's Bungie.
* Downloadable health
Again, in all FPSes prior to Marathon, you had to find health packs to heal yourself. When you used up all the health packs, you were effed in the A. Bungie created the concept of downloadable health units mounted on walls that had an unlimited supply of health. They generally made them somewhat rare and hard to find, to avoid making the game too easy.
* Limited weapon carrying capacity
In virtually all FPSes prior to Halo, everytime you found a new weapon, you got to keep it permanently. Once you had the more powerful later weapons, you had no reason to use the earlier weapons. Bungie did away with that with Halo 1, where they only let you carry two weapons at a time and they were balanced so that every weapon had its use, even late in the game.
* Recharging shields/health
Also in Halo 1, Bungie did innovated the recharging shield system, but you still had to find health packs. In Halo 2, they also had health recharge. Totally changed the dynamics of the game, never pulling the focus off of combat and on to hunting for health. Because where's the fun in that?
Anyway, you can't say Bungie never innovated. And with huge innovations like free-look under their belts from so long ago, **** you if you expect them to keep reinventing the goddamn wheel today.
Go dudes durfist
Why are they so pissed? Because in GameFaqs you get 250 new threads per day made by trolls for the sole purpose of whinning and bashing games.
Why I love KMC. Things might get chaotic every now and then...but is no where near the Apocalypse at hand in GameFAQs.
Edit: By the way does anyone know how to unlock the MJOLNIR Mark V armor? droolio
GameFAQs Halo 3 message board is so full of traffic a new thread gets to 2nd page before your screen loads it. ROFL
