I played the singleplayer campaign for an hour or two, got bored to death and gave up the game, and deemed the series overrated by a billion times. However this week, I finally got a chance at trying the multiplayer parts of Halo, Co-op campaign and Deathmatch, the quality of the game increased tenfolds, so I might give the games another chance. However, would it be stupid to jump straight to Halo 3? Must I play through the other two first to understand the plot etc, or is it independent enough?
You won't understand the plot, but you don't need to know the plot to play multiplayer. 😛
I agree. Plot has never been a big thing in the Halo games, it's all been about cutting edge graphics, smart AI and gameplay to keep the player interested. Sure, they've TRIED to put some plot in, but it's never been anything very ingenuitive. Just play the game. Seriously, if you want amazing graphics, you can't do much better than Halo 3.
And yeah, who needs plot when you can just go kick your friend's ass at multiplayer?

Jump straight to Halo 3 in my opinion.
One of the first games I bought when I got the computer I have right now was Halo and Doom 3.
I literally had to will myself to play through two levels in that game. I will always say that the Library level is the worst level in FPS of all time. It's that bad.
Halo 3 doesnt have those type of levels anymore, but in my opinion, the original Halo is completely overrated.
Ahh
Halo three, I was hoping for an H3 thread in here.
See, I don't know if any of you know what MLG is...But there is a gaming league called MLG, that holds tournaments all around the united states, for loads of cash.
I happened to be fortunate enough to attend one of these events.
MLG Orlando was honestly one of the funnest things i've EVER done.
...I was also fortunate enough to make it into pro bracket at my first tournament, then I was signed, and it was all sorts of good =], but i'll only talk about that if you want me to.
But halo three is a really fun game, and it differs alot from both h1 and h2.
Sadly enough, I went and traded it in today for CoD4, but H3 is a great competitive game, check out MLG if you're into good competition.

Wow, that's pretty awesome.Too bad you traded it in for CoD 1,2,3- I mean 4.
Hah, don't get me wrong, I still LOVE halo...
Call me a nerd, call me what you want, I was making enough money off of halo to basically do whatever I would want.
I'm just trying something new, if i'm no where near as good as I am at the halos, i'm gunna trade CoD back in, go back to halo ways, and it'll be a great time =]

I'd have to disagree with your opinions on the plot, though. I found the plot to be immensely interesting.
It isn't so easy to get into, though, true.
