Revenge of the Sith- Oscars? (Merged)

Dodo, thank you for these shots. Some of these were what I was talking about:

#1: is a horrible clonetrooper shot
#2: I thought looked good compared to the rest
#3/4: I agree look too CG for a ship
#5: I think is decent, but the waves over all I think in Kamino are choppy and horrible looking.
#6: I know what your talking about, it looks fake
#7: I thought looked very awkard as far as the motion in the scene, looks very bluescreened, and the giant bucket CG looks weird and totally fake...horrible CG in the droid factory scene
#8: CG 3PO is horrible. I'm afraid there are worse shots where he looks even worse, when the arm thing is wriggling him around
#9: that shot of Jango is terrible! Hate it
#10: Looks good
#11: Ditto
#12: Ditto
#13: Again bad CG Jango

Harold, I actually found two random shots through google of both. Go ahead and find the best shot of Yoda and compare it. I don't care. So you thought that shot of Yoda fighting was bad huh? I thought it was actually one of the better shots....

Watoo is a great CG character, but still doesn't compare to the realism that is Gollum.

Actually hunchy, I was just watching RotK. In the scene where Gollum is arguing with his reflection, he looks very fake. In my opinion, Gollum looks better fully-lit.

And no, that is a TERRIBLE shot of Yoda.

Yeah, that is an especially bad shot of Yoda, there are many better ones...

but even the better ones can't even compare to Gollum in my opinion

I know it's not a big deal, but the CG C-3PO shot you posted looked great to me. Looks like Anthony Daniels in costume.

hmm, yeah, it actually isn't a bad shot of him... my bad.

but there are some really bad 3PO shots in that sequence

Glad you corrected yourself.

hmm... you can't really tell from the stills but:

maybe it's just that I really hate that scene

You're right about that scene looking bad. Stills make it look good, but it animates so cartoonish, especially when the factory droid trys to shake 3PO off.

Hmm, I couldn't find any better ones on google of Yoda.

Yes, the scene with Gollum in the reflection is a worse one, but I still think it looks good.

That one specific one of 3PO was fine (I think he might have been real there actually), but in those other shots....horrid.

And then there's this shot I mentioned before. Look how horrible the background is:

yes, that scene is truly terrible...

here's one of Yoda at his best IMO:

oh my god! what the hell is wrong with you people? those scense look great there is not a thing wrong with them. If you hate the FX that much then are you going to see EPIII? If i hated something that much I wouldn't go see it, perhaps you should just stick with the OT and pretend the PT never happened.
I can say this if Kill Bill 2 came out first and then #1 came out a month later I wouldn't go see #1.

Of course I'm going to see Episode III! Just because I don't particularly like the FX doesn't mean I don't like the films... I very much enjoy watching these films. Not as much as I do the OT, but I like them none the less...

and Kill Bil Vol. 1 is a great film! Vol. 2 wouldn't make much sense without it...

then why do you bash the FX if you like the films? the FX are fantastic
I have to say I couldn't tell that there was not one actual clone trooper in EPII they were all done with CG, that is an outstanding feet.

my kill bill referance was just that i felt #2 sucked and if it came out first I would bother with #1
but I loved #1 and got sucked into #2 which I totally hated.
so If I saw TPM and felt the FX sucked and did not like the movie then I would stop there and not bother withthe rest.

^ ahh, I see... that makes sense 🙂

And I bash the FX because they deserve to be bashed... I obviously don't think the FX are 'fantastic'.

sure there are some fantastic shots as I've mentioned, but a lot of the CG work doesn't live up to my expectations.

It is indeed an amazing thing that they did all the Clonetroopers with CGI, but it's a shame it didn't look great.

But that's just me, and I know there are a lot of people like you who didn't even know that... and to be honest, I have no idea how you couldn't tell.

I really don't know why some scenes of Jango were CGI. I mean, goddamn, is it that hard to jump down from something, point your gun, and say "Don't move, Jedi! Take hime away!"

exactly! there was no point to have him CG!

Darth Maul, I've already lost respect for you as far as movies go. You know why? I can already guess. You loved Kill Bill #1, and hated #2, because let me guess......not enough action? This shows a major lack in taste. #1 was a tribute to martial arts films and #2 was a tribute to spaghetti westerns in their tone that is. #2 is a great movie with great dialouge. I found it a far better movie actually. I know they are overall one film, but they do have different tones, and this shows that all you look for in a movie is action, and therefore you have no movie taste.

Not to mention, you loved all the fx in the Star Wars prequels. If you think those shots posted above are good background shots you REALLY have a problem. Those shots are terrible. I could create a better background in about ten minutes on my computer. There is no detail and it looks majorly greenscreened.

Yes, that Yoda pic is much better, but still doesn't even come within yards of Gollum.

And yes, Jango being CG in the Kamino fight is obvious and horrible as he is in the droid factory scene.

And yes the clonetroopers being CG was a big accomplishment, but they still look bad when put up against real people and there is no point to it. Again, I've seen better CG even in a Pixar film and even then there's nothing to compare to.

And just because we think there are many bad fx shots in the movie, doesn't mean we don't like it either. I still like the movie, but you have to admit when there are bad shots. And even if I thought the Star Wars movies were going to be horrible, which I don't, I'd still SEE them just to have seen them. But I am very much anticipating Episode 3.

Woo, you cannot compare Gollum to Yoda at all.

Gollum was basically a recreation of something that existed, Yoda was done from scratch. To elaborate:
Gollum's parts were ALL acted out carefully by a talented actor and later animated to match the performance.
On the prequels, the animators themselves are the performers, they animate how they think the character would act rather then following what an actor did.
It may sound stupid, but comparing Yoda and Gollum is pretty far fetched, since there are worlds between the two of them, simply in terms of concept.

And quite frankly, I never thought Gollum was that needed. If they'd put proper makeup on a skinny actor, there would have been no need for him to be CG.

I also don't understand why people seemingly have no problem with a lot of the FX in LotR. While, as in the prequels, a lot of them were very, very good, there were quite some that were just awfully terrible (fancy that, just like in the prequels!)
If most of the wide angle battle shots from TTT would have been in AOTC, I am pretty sure that A LOT of people in this thread would hate them to death.
But of course it is pretty popular to like everything labelled "Peter Jackson" and "Lord of the Rings" at the moment, so I see where this is coming from...

Thank you! Well said!
