Doctor Who news coming...

http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/78316419.html

Matt Smiths gonna be leaving...but who'll be next Doctor? John Hurt?

I doubt that, John Hurt is to big of a name to do it unless its for just one season.

Hurt would be a great change of pace. Realistically, if they keep asking new actor after new actor to match the wit, charm, and energy of Tennant and Smith (and whoever comes after, if they succeed), eventually someone is going to fail spectacularly. I'd rather not see that.

But, like, older, more sullen and serious. Just a whole new tone. Even if it's just for a season, I think that would be an amazing turn for the character.

Moffat was going for an older Doctor last time, but Smith blew him away on the audition. We'll see what style they want this time.

I'm glad Smith is leaving. Not that I think he wasn't a good Doctor but the stories have been lacking in general for me, obviously I blame the writing but perhaps a new Doctor will liven things up. One of the names that I spotted among some of the truly ridiculous names being thrown about as a potential new Doctor was Sean Pertwee. I think this is the most interesting of the names so far, not too sure if he'd like the idea of following in his fathers footsteps though.

Billie Piper. Ya know, because of Bad Wolf. Or something. Make it happen Moffat.

No, not a female doctor please

Why not? It's gotta happen sometime, as far as I'm concerned. If the casting's right...

I'm not saying it out of some sexist meaning I'm saying it because it just wouldn't be right. I know there always having talks of him becoming a woman and I think when David regenerated into Matt and saw that he had long hair and said he was a woman kinda poked fun at that. I doubt my wish that he'd regerate into David again will come true but still...besides I dunno if a time lord can regenerate into a different gender.

They can.

If a writer in charge of it decides they can.

Yeah, not sure I agree with a gender change, not because I don't think it could be possible, but because I think it reeks of pandering to the media. Might as well get Idris Elba to play Lara Croft if we're going to be silly about things.

Idris Elba as the Doctor though- that could work...

Yeah, he's another one of the names being mentioned, he's a great actor and I like pretty much everything he's been in, not entirely convinced that he could play The Doctor though, he's a bit too much of a bad-ass IMO, plus his stock is rising feature film wise and he might be more interested in his movie work.

No more bad ass than Christopher Eccleston. However, not likely indeed.

No-one predicted Matt Smith last time; no-one had even heard about him until about six hours before the reveal when the bookies suddenly started issuing odds on him out of nowhere.

You might be right, Eccleston played a good Doctor IMO and I suppose Elba could do a good job, it would however be a big move from the types of character he usually plays.
